True crime is full of stories about what happened. Black Hive Films is interested in how the hell we got there.

We follow the paper trail, question the official version, and look closely at the systems, decisions, warnings and failures that existed before the headline.

Crime. Justice. Psychology. Military service. Institutional failure. And the complicated human beings caught in the middle.

We don’t need to manufacture outrage. The documents are usually quite capable of doing that themselves.

Black Hive Films is independent documentary filmmaking built on primary sources, careful research, uncomfortable questions and a healthy suspicion of tidy explanations.

Have you ever learned that someone you admired was abusive toward their partner?

The Colombia ticket grabs attention. But the witness interviews may tell us more about how investigators were moving.

Michelle Parker has been missing since 2011. On October 14, police arrested her ex-fiancé, Dale Smith Jr., on a second-degree murder charge.

Now comes a revealing detail.

According to a prosecution filing reported October 20, police deliberately delayed certain witness interviews until Smith was in custody because they feared prompting him to flee.

Investigators also learned the day before his arrest that he had a Colombia flight scheduled for October 16.

His attorney says it was routine travel to visit a romantic partner. There was a return ticket. Those details matter.

Here’s the Black Hive question:

Were investigators waiting to finish building their case—or waiting until they could safely make their next moves?

Our inference: the filing suggests investigators were managing what their next interviews might signal to Smith. It does NOT establish that he knew an arrest was coming.

And that creates two separate questions:

What evidence made police ready to arrest him?

What made October 14 the day to act?

Those answers may overlap. They may also be different.

Police credit advances in digital forensics with moving the investigation forward. Our next question is whether those findings independently support earlier accounts—or expose contradictions that investigators previously couldn’t resolve.

That is a question for the evidence, not something the flight booking answers.

Smith maintains his innocence. The detailed arrest evidence has remained sealed.

Michelle’s family has waited nearly 15 years. The crucial story is what investigators can finally prove—and whether it brings them closer to finding her.

🐝 Welcome to Black Hive Films.

If you’re reading this, you’re here at the very beginning.

This isn’t just another true crime channel.

We’re building feature-length documentaries that ask the harder questions, dig deeper, and tell the stories others couldn’t or wouldn’t.

Our first documentary, LINE25, explores a homicide through a different lens. Not to excuse what happened, but to understand how a 22-year-old former soldier and a 19-year-old young woman became part of the same tragic story.

This story has never been told like this before.

Over the coming months, you’ll see behind-the-scenes footage, exclusive interviews, production updates, research discoveries, and teaser clips as we build this film from the ground up.

Your comments, ideas, and discussions are part of this journey. We want you here from day one.

Thanks for taking a chance on a brand-new independent documentary studio.

Welcome to the hive. 🐝

Every story has a beginning.

This is ours.
