It’s been another busy day in the Benny Halt Locomotive Shed, as our railway team pulls together to get City of Derby’s overhaul over the line.
We captured these shots of Ben, Ollie, Lee and Jason hard at work — tackling the electrics, fitting new engine components and giving her a fresh coat of paint.
There’s still work to be done, but she’s really starting to come together. We’re hoping it won’t be too long before City of Derby is back out on the Main Railway, looking — and performing — better than ever!

Lappa Valley
For many of our team, Lappa Valley was part of childhood long before it became a place to work.
Those memories have stayed with us, and they’re a big part of why we care so much about the time families spend here today.
This young man would grow up to become Matt, our Head of Marketing and Visitor Experience - standing beside Zebedee around 1989. He had no idea then that he’d one day be part of the team helping families enjoy the place he grew up loving.
It’s a lovely thing to be part of someone’s childhood. Having been those children ourselves, we know how much it can mean.

Even little old Arthur is having a bubble bath ahead of this weekend’s Grand Gala.
Our Lister works train, Arthur, is one of Lappa Valley’s true unsung heroes. Most days, he’s quietly working away behind the scenes, helping to haul maintenance wagons around the track and keeping things moving.
But this weekend, Arthur gets his moment.
At 9:20am on Saturday, he’ll open our Grand Gala with his very own non-stop passenger service — a rare chance for visitors to ride behind a little engine that has played such a big part in life at Lappa Valley. He’ll also be joining the grand finale on Sunday afternoon, standing proudly alongside the rest of the fleet.
The weather is looking great for a weekend of steam, smiles and special memories. We’d love for you to join us — pre-booking is highly recommended.

Look who's arrived at Benny Halt!
Mr Hallworth and Spirit of Adventure have landed after their long journey from The Perrygrove Railway Adventure, and are now being prepared for their big grand gala appearances this weekend. This is the first time working visiting locomotives have ever been on our main railway.
If you're planning to join us on either Saturday or Sunday, pre-booking is highly recommended at LappaValley.co.uk.
(Extra points if you can spot Lee hiding!)

Our team are at the heart of everything we do at Lappa Valley, and we're incredibly proud to have such a dedicated group of people who work so hard to help families create special memories together.
Many of them have been part of the Lappa story for years. Ben, for example, joined us over 10 years ago and, through his hard work, passion and commitment, is now one of our Directors, helping to oversee the day-to-day running of Lappa Valley.
What makes us especially proud is that our team genuinely care. They love what they do, and they love seeing families enjoy everything Lappa Valley has to offer.
We think that warmth, enthusiasm and sense of fun shines through in every train ride, every friendly welcome and every smile shared throughout the day.

The first passenger of the day waits patiently for Ellie at East Wheal Rose this morning.
(Although, we did have a friendly word regarding their yellow-line etiquette!)

We hope you’re having a wonderful birthday - and lovely to see so many visitors making a fuss of you today!
