A couple of facts:

1) Spider-Noir is a good show. Worth a watch.

2) I had no idea there was even a possibility of it getting a second season.

Like I enjoyed it, and going from the online chatter about it I'm not alone, but the show very much felt like a one and done type of situation. Also, considering a lot of modern shows have great first seasons but fall of a cliff with season 2, maybe this is for the best.

So Zach Cregger recently did an interview with IGN talking about his upcoming Resident Evil movie and the fan backlash against it.

I did a video a while ago talking about adaptations in general (https://youtu.be/gcLoCm-jBTM), and in it I brought up something I like to call “Narrative Contraband,” which is when an adaptation is so far removed from the work it’s supposedly adapting that it becomes clear the creators had no intention of adapting it in the first place. They just took an original project nobody wanted and slapped superficial references to a recognizable IP on it in hopes of getting it picked up. (See: basically every previous adaptation of Resident Evil.)

Do I think that’s what Cregger is doing with this movie?

...Kinda.

From other interviews, it sounds like he essentially started with an original story and reworked it into being a Resident Evil movie. But at the same time, he seems to recognize my concept of Narrative Contraband, by saying: "This is not me just telling a story and slapping Resident Evil on it so I can get a budget. This is me telling a Resident Evil story. I understand the resistance, I do, because I have it myself. It is coming from a true place of love."

Now, would I have preferred a more straightforward adaptation of the games? Absolutely. You could make a great, faithful adaptation of RE1 on a microscopic budget and still get fans excited.

That said, Cregger is one of the best horror directors working right now, and despite all this, he actually seems pretty humble about the whole situation. He understands why fans are upset and hopes they’ll still give his movie a chance.

Antagonizing fans and calling them names for being skeptical of your work is pretty much the go-to response from Hollywood nowadays. But Cregger actually seems capable of some self-reflection.

Going from this interview, I don't see the typical Hollywood response of "Heh, these PEASANTS just can't appreciate my sheer, unbridled GENIUS", so at least there's that. I’m not saying this means I’ll love his Resident Evil movie, but I’ll be there in theaters to watch it—and I’ll review it for you guys.

So I was actually fearing/hoping this video was gonna be made obsolete by the announcement of a new DMC at yesterday's State of Play. Sure wasn't.
If you're not a Final Fantasy fan there really wasn't a lot for you in that event, huh? Just hope they bring Mega Man X Command Mission to other platforms as well.

Pressing F to pay my respects to the legend, Tim Curry. This guy was in so many iconic movie roles I couldn't possibly list them all, from Clue, to Legend, and even his all-time cheesy performance in Red Alert, I can't imagine anybody hating him. You either love Tim Curry, or you don't know who he is.
And if you're in that second camp, fix that right now, because this dude was one of the greats.
