Hey all! It’s been hard to be online lately as I have been outside harvesting apricots, tanning hides, and doing farm work up north in the mountains. Here are some shots from my life lately.

Bowling Green is a traditional folk song that likely took shape in the mid to late 1800s, carried forward by through generations of singers and fiddlers. Like so many old songs, it has traveled far beyond its original place, shifting and reshaping itself in the hands of the people who held it close. While the lyrics point toward Bowling Green, Kentucky, this song has always reminded me of home in Canada.
There is something about these old tunes that feels timeless and placeless at once. They seem to belong to anyone who has sat with a banjo or fiddle, thinking about where they come from and who they miss. When I sing Bowling Green, I feel connected to the landscapes and to the long line of voices that kept this melody alive simply because it meant something to them. This recording is my way of honouring that lineage.
The world is extremely dark right now, hopefully we can lean on music and community through it all.
I’m excited to share that my cover of the old-time song “Bowling Green” will be out tomorrow on all platforms. I’m playing clawhammer banjo and singing, with the wonderful Jesse Grandmont on fiddle.
