THE 'MIRACLE CROSS' AT GROUND ZERO 🇺🇸✝️

25 years ago, amid the unforgettable devastation of Ground Zero, a 17-foot-long crossbeam weighing at least two tons was discovered standing in the wreckage of the World Trade Center.

Franciscan priest Fr. Brian Jordan, who had been blessing the remains of victims, saw the cross as a powerful reminder that God had not abandoned Ground Zero. He fought to preserve it, blessed it, and for months celebrated Sunday Mass there, ministering to firefighters, police officers, recovery workers and grieving families.

Stat crux dum volvitur orbis (the cross stands while the world turns).

From unimaginable tragedy emerged this powerful symbol of faith, hope, healing, and redemption. The cross remains part of the 9/11 Memorial Museum today. Even after atheist groups tried to have it removed, a judge ruled that it could remain on display because of its historical significance.

Today we celebrate the nativity of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary and with Her, we also celebrate the birth of the first settlement, the establishment of the first Marian Shrine and the First Holy Mass celebrated in what it’s now known as the United States of America 🇺🇸

In a sense we can say that with the birth of our Blessed Mother, this great nation was born. Be proud to be a Catholic American!

“On September 8, 1565, Spanish Admiral Pedro Menéndez de Avilés came ashore at what is now St. Augustine, Florida, and formally claimed the land for Spain, establishing the settlement that would become the first permanent European settlement in what is now the continental United States.

Shortly after landing, Father Francisco López de Mendoza Grajales, chaplain of the expedition, celebrated a Mass of thanksgiving, marking the beginning of Catholic parish life in this new land.

From that moment, Catholic parish life and Eucharistic devotion took root in this new land. Missionaries who followed proclaimed the Gospel among Indigenous peoples and established a Catholic presence that has endured for more than four and a half centuries”
