Ham Radio fun with a Southern accent! I enjoy Parks on the Air activations and all things portable Amateur Radio. Trying new antenna systems and searching out new parks to activate keeps me on my toes. #hamradio #parksontheair #pota #radiocommunication KJ5GKK

While recently vacationing on the FL and AL Gulf Coasts, I activated US-1910, Perdido Key State Park. I did the entire activation from the cab of my truck using my FT-891, ATAS 120A and SS-17' whip. The two antennas, both using the same mount, did an amazing job. 137 total contacts including Italy, Germany, Portugal, Scotland, Martinique, Barbados, Dominican Republic, & Puerto Rico. I can assure you, I'll be back to the beach as soon as I can. The salt water amplifier effect is real.

I took the new mobile station out for a second run just to make sure the first wasn't a fluke. The ATAS-120A and FT-891 performed like champs on both 20m and 40m. I am loving the ability to pull into a park with the A/C running and make great contacts. This is a game changer.

Tomorrow, Saturday, August 8th, at approximately 9:00 a.m. Central, I be operating W1AW/5 from the Shreveport-Bossier Hamfest. Look for me on 40m and 20m and let's get you in the W1AW/5 log. I'm hoping to make as many contact as possible. 73

I'd like some input from the community to help me plan channel content for the rest of this year. Which type of content would you like to see from the Southern Ham channel going forward?
