A Dying Person's Wish Cannot Be Used to Suppress and Deny Consent

In our desi culture, a dying person's final wish is treated as sacred, something people feel bound to fulfill even if it's unjust. A rishta pushed through, an unfair share in property, a favour that isn't rightfully theirs.

Hazrat Umar ؓ's final wish was to be buried next to the Prophet ﷺ. But he did not simply order it.

He instructed his son Abdullah to go to Hazrat Ayesha ؓ first and ask her permission. If she agreed, bury him there. If she refused, bury him with the rest of the Muslims.

Ayesha ؓ had wanted that spot for herself. It was her own room, where her father Abu Bakr ؓ and the Prophet ﷺ were already buried. But she said, "I had the idea of having this place for myself, but today I prefer Umar to myself."

Even on his deathbed, as the leader of the Muslim world, Umar ؓ did not use his status or his final moments to pressure anyone into giving him what he wanted. He asked, and he accepted that the answer could have been no.
