Calm stories inspired by Chinese and East Asian wisdom. Gentle retellings of Daoist, Buddhist, Confucian, strategic, and classical literary tales, paired with watercolour and ink illustrations and peaceful music.
Ancient stories for a quieter mind.

💚 Every story on this channel is personally hand-picked by me. I also narrate the stories videos myself; and the longer-form course videos are narrated by a male voice. From the watercolor imagery to the narration and music, I edit every element myself with care. So please bear with the occasional stumble, misread, or skipped word, and thank you for sharing these quiet moments with me. 💚

Quiet Bamboo

A New Look for 🎍 Quiet Bamboo 🎊

Our latest Musashi episode explores a new visual style: cinematic scenes with detailed wood and stone, soft natural light, and mist stretching into the distance. Slow camera movements give each scene time to breathe alongside the narration.

The familiar watercolor-and-ink style has a different kind of quiet - soft washes, delicate brushwork, and open space on luminous rice paper. I enjoy what each brings to these stories, and I’d love to hear which feels more restful to you.

For future Quiet Bamboo videos, what would you prefer? Answer through the poll below.

Thank you for spending a little quiet time here.

Quiet Bamboo

🌿 A new kind of Quiet Bamboo episode is coming!

Alongside our calm stories, we are introducing a longer educational series: Ancient wisdom, explored step by step. 💚

These 12–18 minute episodes will explore traditions such as Taoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism in greater depth. You’ll learn:

• What important ideas and terms actually mean
• The original texts and historical context behind them
• How related teachings differ and connect
• Common misunderstandings surrounding Eastern philosophy
• How these ideas might illuminate everyday choices

Watch the first episode here 👉 https://youtu.be/E3Y5KSYZQi0

🎋 The style will be slightly different from our story episodes. The familiar watercolor imagery, peaceful narration, and gentle pacing will remain, but the new videos will be more structured and teaching-focused. Expect clear chapters, visual metaphors, diagrams, key passages, and explanations that build one idea at a time.

📺 You’ll find these new videos under the Playlists tab 🌿 Taoism Explained: A 12-Episode Learning Journey on YouTube. Each episode will be clearly numbered and arranged in a learning sequence - starting with foundational ideas before gradually progressing toward more complex teachings. You can begin with Episode 1 and follow the course at your own pace.

This new format is not replacing the calm stories. It is a companion series for anyone who wants to understand the wisdom behind them more deeply.

Please leave a comment and tell me what you think 💭
Did the pacing feel right?
Were the explanations and visuals helpful?
Was the lesson easy to follow?
What would you like to see more, or less, of in future episodes?

Your feedback will help shape the rest of the course. 🌿
