🪶 “They Didn’t Hiss. They Walked With Me.”

A Peaceful Encounter at Dorchester Lake Park

It was Sunday around noon, and I was walking the trail at Dorchester Lake Park. A soft rain had started to fall, and I found myself at the midway point of the loop—centered, grounded, and choosing to take the slightly muddier path. Not just because it was the quicker way back, but because I’m training for the MudGirl race, and embracing mud is part of the process.

Then I saw them.

At first, it looked like just one goose family—two adults and a few goslings—making their way near the trail. I paused. Anyone who’s ever crossed paths with protective geese knows they don’t welcome visitors easily, especially near their young. I even considered taking another direction, just to be safe.

But something in me said,

“Walk gently. Stay grounded. Trust the moment.”


So I did.

And they didn’t hiss.
They didn’t scatter.
They simply walked—with me.


🦢 More Than One Family

As I looked around, I realized it wasn’t just one family.
It was at least three separate groups, totaling about 14 geese and goslings, gathered across the grassy slope near a small stream.

Some were eating.
Some were resting or meandering through the grass.
All were calm—present, undisturbed by me, and completely at ease in their environment.

They didn’t rush away.
They didn’t protectively block their young.
They let me walk among them as if I belonged.
