ребята! все глитчи, которые есть на этом канале - это настоящие глитчи, а не фильтры.

дело в том, что до 2022 года для нас не было принципиальной разницы, откуда идёт глитч. мы использовали различные плагины и фильтры для показа глитча. глитч для нас был простой эстетикой (какое же избитое это слово «эстетика»), пока одна девушка по имени ира, также занимавшаяся глитч-артом, не рассказала нам о том, как она делает глитчи в аудасити.

и тут-то мы поняли: настоящий глитч должен рождаться из машины, буквально deus ex machina, то есть через разрушение файла или среды - в заморских странах это называется датабендинг (databending).

в нашем арсенале несколько вариантов датабендинга: и в аудасити, и в textedit, и работа с кодеком в avidemux, и датабендинг на питоне

роза менкман в своей работе «the glitch moment(um)» (на русский не переведена, к сожалению) ещё в 2011 году констатировала тенденцию к «одомашниванию» глитча. превращение глитча в эстетику, фильтры для фотошопа и сони вегаса или плагины приводит к тому, что глитч теряет свою политическую силу и становится простой красивой абстракцией.

ещё до прочтения менкман, когда мы впервые услышали яна елинека, alva noto и oval, мы действительно воспринимали их как некую музыку машин из будущего. когда же в ковидные времена эстетика глитча стала набирать обороты и в тиктоке и в инсте и на ютубе, нам стало немного не по себе, мы подумали примерно то же самое, что и менкман, хотя прочли её значительно позже.

поэтому в метамодерне мы возвращаем глитчу его изначальную энергию. глитч должен быть источником той самой энтропии (неопределённости), которая возникает в сигнале при передаче сообщения от передатчика к приёмнику (ну или если лингвистические термины использовать - «от отправителя к получателю»). глитч должен исходить от машины и быть результатом постчеловеческого синтеза - симбиоза человека и машины. глитч - штука случайная, контролируемый глитч теряет свою мощность.

everyone! all the glitches on this channel are real glitches, not filters.

the thing is, before 2022, we didn’t see any fundamental difference in where a glitch came from. we used various plugins and filters to produce glitch effects. glitch was just a simple aesthetic for us (god, what an overused word “aesthetic” is), until a girl named ira, who was also doing glitch art, told us how she made glitches in audacity.

that’s when we realised: a real glitch must be born from the machine, literally deus ex machina — through the destruction of a file or an environment. in other parts of the world, this is called databending.

we have several databending techniques in our arsenal: working in audacity and textedit, manipulating codecs in avidemux, and databending with python.

back in 2011, rosa menkman, in her work the glitch moment(um) (unfortunately, it hasn’t been translated into russian), already identified a tendency towards the “domestication” of glitch. turning glitch into an aesthetic, photoshop and sony vegas filters, or plugins strips it of its political power, reducing it to a simple, pretty abstraction.

even before reading menkman, when we first heard jan jelinek, alva noto, and oval, we really did perceive their music as a kind of machine music from the future. later, during the covid years, when glitch aesthetics started gaining traction on tiktok, instagram, and youtube, we felt a little uneasy. we had more or less the same thoughts as menkman, even though we only read her work much later.

so, in metamodernism, we’re bringing glitch back to its original energy. glitch should be a source of that very entropy (uncertainty) that emerges in a signal when a message is transmitted from a sender to a receiver (or, if we want to use linguistic terms, from an addresser to an addressee). glitch should originate from the machine and emerge from a posthuman synthesis — a symbiosis between human and machine. glitch is inherently random; a controlled glitch loses its power.

so yeah, that’s our little late-night manifesto :)

1. leaves falling, morgentau и thoughts of trees были написаны последними из всего альбома и в первоначальном треклисте их не было.

они родились спонтанно на кухне во время чаепития в один из ноябрьских вечеров 2023 года. в то время мы воскресили старенький айпэд и решили написать пару треков прям за чаем, однако мы не учли возраст планшета, из-за чего возникли различные баги во время написания и треки получились довольно обрывистыми. тем не менее, будучи ленивыми, мы не стали позже исправлять их и включили их в альбом такими, какими они и были. кстати, никакой постобработки у этих треков тоже не было - все эффекты добавлялись на дорожки перед работой с сэмплами, а мастеринга у них и вовсе не было.


2. girl with flower изначально не была девушкой с цветком

всё началось летом 2023 года, когда мы решили воссоздать одну из своих старых демок - трек pixel sky (позже это (playnflatemedialab.bandcamp.com/album/pnfl015-pixe…) было реализовано), но в итоге получился трек, отличный от нашей задумки. тогда мы поняли: название pixel sky ему попросту не подходит. так композиция и оставалась без названия около недели, пока однажды среди снов того лета не появилась рыжая девушка в летнем платье в ранне-осеннем пейзаже и с цветком в руках. весь сон сопровождался той самой музыкой, написанной на тот момент недавно. так и родилось название girl with flower. трек вошёл в альбом autumn, а рыжая девушка, которая и до этого появлялась во снах, стала прообразом ренаты.


3. в beijing sun звучит площадь тяньаньмэнь

знаменитая площадь тяньаньмэнь, известная благодаря тому, что в 1989 году на ней «ничего не произошло», появилась и в треке beijing sun. нет, это не были сэмплы из новостей о протестах 1989 года или полёвки нынешней тяньаньмэнь. в качестве басовой линии, идущей на протяжении всего трека, звучит буквально фотография площади во время подавления восстания, взятая из гугла (см.фото). всё дело в том, что синтезатор alchemy, использованный в треке, умеет преобразовывать картинку в звук через конвертацию пикселей в волны. это и позволило нам сделать из архивного кадра сэмпл.

fun facts about the album "autumn":

1. leaves falling, morgentau, and thoughts of trees were the last tracks to be written and weren’t part of the original tracklist.

they came together spontaneously in the kitchen over tea on one of the evenings in november 2023. at the time, we revived an old ipad and decided to write a couple of tracks right there over tea. however, we didn’t take the tablet’s age into account, which resulted in various glitches during the writing process, and the tracks ended up being rather fragmented. still, being lazy, we didn’t bother fixing them later and included them on the album exactly as they were. by the way, these tracks didn’t receive any post-processing either — all the effects were added to the tracks before we started working with the samples, and they weren’t mastered at all.

2. girl with flower wasn’t originally a girl with a flower.

it all started in the summer of 2023, when we decided to recreate one of our old demos, pixel sky (which was later realized as this release (playnflatemedialab.bandcamp.com/album/pnfl015-pixe…, but in the end, the track turned out completely different from what we had in mind. that’s when we realized that the name pixel sky simply didn’t fit it. the composition remained untitled for about a week, until one night, among the dreams of that summer, a red-haired girl in a summer dress appeared in an early-autumn landscape, holding a flower in her hands. the entire dream was accompanied by that very piece of music, which had only recently been written at the time. that’s how the title girl with flower was born. the track became part of the album autumn, and the red-haired girl, who had already appeared in our dreams before, became the prototype for renata.

3. beijing sun contains tiananmen square.

the famous tiananmen square, known for the fact that “nothing happened” there in 1989, also made its way into the track beijing sun. no, these aren’t samples from news reports about the 1989 protests, nor field recordings of present-day tiananmen square. the bass line running throughout the entire track is literally a photograph of the square taken during the suppression of the uprising, found on google (see photo).

the thing is, the alchemy synthesizer used on the track can transform an image into sound by converting pixels into waves. this allowed us to turn an archival photograph into a sample.

осень приходит тихо, но неизбежно, превращая мир в калейдоскоп ярких оттенков. листья уходят из зеленого обаяния, трансформируясь в палитру золота, красок и багрянца. воздух наполняется прощальной нотой лета, смешанной с нежным шепотом ветра, который танцует с природой, разносит ароматы зрелых плодов и падающих листьев.

дни становятся короче, но гораздо насыщеннее. солнце скользит по небу ниже, его лучи приобретают мягкий, золотистый оттенок, заставляя все вокруг мерцать и светиться как будто в последний раз. природа готовится к отдыху, подготавливая землю для зимы, погружаясь в состояние медленного спокойствия.

осень — это время перехода, период перемен, когда природа подчеркивает свою красоту через изменение. она приносит нам возможность замедлиться, насладиться моментом и увидеть красоту во всем, что нас окружает.

такая красота снята и заглитчена в новгороде осенью 2024 года.

мы продолжаем собирать работы на мутабьют, посвящённый 35-летию выхода альбома loveless шугейз-легенд my bloody valentine.



не будем рассказывать о том, насколько легендарен альбом, лучше расскажем про суть опен-колла:

что такое мутабьют? слово образовано из двух английских слов — mutation (мутация, преобразование) и tribute (дань, трибьют). то есть, мутабьют — это трибьют исполнителю, в котором произведения автора меняют свою первоначальную форму и (возможно) среду. это может быть нойз на основе песни артиста, визуальный арт на основе спектрограммы песни, ремикс на песню или просто видоизменённый кавер — всё, что угодно.

в этот раз мы решили немного пожертвовать свободой артистов ради одной интересной задумки: воссоздать loveless в разножанровом формате. присылайте свои интерпретации треков с этого альбома, но учитывайте несколько вещей:

1. необязательно треки должны быть шугейзовые или роковые, приветствуются любые жанры.
2. интерпретации необязательно должны содержать вокал, как вам угодно, так и творите. если вы хотите нойз-версию, делайте нойз. вообще видоизменить композицию, будем рады услышать новое на основе старого.
3. в этот раз мы ограничили число ai-интерпретаций - максимум три трека возможны.
4. построение сборника полностью идентично треклисту loveless и будет содержать 11 треков. это значит, что интерпретация одного конкретного трека принимается только ОДИН раз, дубликаты исключены. для ориентирования мы вам высылаем оригинальный треклист, готовые и принятые треки будут зачёркиваться в этом списке по мере формирования сборника.

we're still accepting submissions for our mutabute dedicated to the 35th anniversary of my bloody valentine's landmark album loveless.


instead of telling you how legendary this album is, we'd rather explain what this open call is all about.

what is a mutabute?

the word is formed from two english words — mutation and tribute. a mutabute is a tribute in which an artist's work is transformed into a new form and, possibly, a new medium. it can be a noise piece based on a song, visual art derived from a song's spectrogram, a remix, a radically altered cover version, anything goes.

this time, we've decided to sacrifice a bit of artistic freedom in favor of one particular concept: recreating loveless through a wide range of genres. send us your interpretations of the album's tracks, but please keep the following in mind:

1. your submission doesn't have to be shoegaze or rock. all genres are welcome.
2. your interpretation doesn't have to include vocals. create whatever feels right to you. if you want to make a noise version, make a noise version. if you want to completely reshape the composition, go for it. we'd love to hear something new growing out of something familiar.
3. this time we've limited ai-generated interpretations — no more than three tracks in the compilation may use ai.
4. the compilation will follow the original loveless tracklist exactly and will consist of 11 tracks. this means that each song may be interpreted only ONCE. duplicate submissions for the same track will not be accepted. to help you keep track, here's the original tracklist. accepted tracks will be crossed out as the compilation gradually takes shape.
