Noragami, not a huge anime, but has for SURE been a stand out in my media study. Don't underestimate hidden gems.
Anime in general captures my attention more than film.
I'd say 'animation' in general, but I don't know if western animation resonates as much with me.
I think it just stems from the sort of lessons that are valued in Eastern cultures, vs western.
I am exhausted with a certain type of western mentality, and the global climate only exaggerates that fatigue.
Historically, Anime started stylistically no different than the west, but let the medium itself decide what the clearest and strongest choices would be to evolve.
Western animation's pride in it's own dominance, insulated it from innovation for so long that Anime is now the clear choice of study for those that value the animation medium itself.
Sonic finds himself so tangled, because every documentary on him makes sure to mention Sonic was for "America". But, when you know global history, you know that unfortunately America sees itself differently than the world sees it.
A place for all.
Those that argue Sonic should reflect American media and culture, misunderstand why America was ever idolized by Sonic Team in the first place.
Now that Rumble is out, the Sonic Silence before the Sonic Storm begins! When the news cycle for the next major game begins, I am returning! This time, using recent media examples to make my points clearer as to where Sonic can grow and develop.
New Film I've enjoyed: Weapons, One Battle After Another, I Saw The TV Glow, Good Fortune, Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood
Sonic is a mix of western and eastern influence. However, it's a LOT harder to find western media that is as 'Emotive' as eastern media tends to be.
Saying Sonic is a mix of East and West is far too vague, which is why JP purists sort of dominate the narrative discussion. Sonic is an emotional series, and a ton of western media belittles emotion, especially western animation, but not all of it.
The West more commonly explores emotion in film.
Learning how emotional narratives are told in the East and West I believe is the bridge we are looking for in discussion.
Here's the 'Emotional story through-line' that I see.
Sonic 1: Animal saving Animals trapped in machines, Nature vs Greed Sonic 2: Tails bullied for strange trait with low confidence, trait becomes power Sonic 3: Knuckles has his trust broken and learns to trust again SA1: Tikal and Chao's arch continues this emotional core SA2: Shadow and Maria's arch continues this emotional core
Heroes: loses it a little, Team Dark sort of carries it with Shadow's memory loss ShTH: Picks it up
06: Elise's never cry leadership reasonability
Unleashed: ngl I know ppl love this game, but I think the sillier Sonic stuff started here. Still explores emotion, but there's no major emotional journey or change.

If you live in the US, make a plan to vote tomorrow
Conspiracies are a misdirection, a pathetic attempt to shrink issues until nuance feels alien
Real life is far more complex and requires ALWAYS paying attention
The hardest thing to believe is you can make a difference, but think about who that is convenient for
It’s scary for BOTH sides to believe our fates are linked
Easier to believe someone has an evil plan, or even a good plan
True strength is faith and love in humanities imperfect processes
We are always growing, our ideas are as well. As long as we keep trying, that’s perfectly imperfect to me

Dang we are still WAITINNNNG
Idgaf about all this corporate Sonic shit, gimme what’s next!
I wanna know if Sega took their success money and plugged their ears, or finally took the chance with Sonic we’ve been talking about for YEARS
I know that they were listening when they were struggling, so if they stop when the money comes, my hater era begins..

Found a neat Twitter ‘Spaces’ equivalent for Bluesky
The reason I love spaces is because it’s far more interactive and allows viewers to pick up the mic and speak with me!
Bluecast is even better! Letting you post images and links in the chat as well!!
I’ll be testing out this platform as it seems the user base is Japanese only so far.
Come, help me be the pioneer of this new streaming platform!!

Attack on Titan was incredible.
Still waiting for Frontiers' follow up btw.
Until then, gathering a library of popular media examples to cross reference during discussion.

I've been preparing... Watching a lot of newer media, refreshing my media knowledge and experience for the upcoming big sequel to Sonic Frontiers.
It's very important to know what else is fresh on audiences minds, to find more common connection as discourse gets exaggerated by social media.
This means researching Eastern AND Western media.
I look forward to returning when the news cycle returns it's focus to a uniquely "Sonic" experience.
I don't have much to add to a conversation about party games built to expand the brand's reach. (Rumble, Crossworlds, Blitz)
