For people who drink from skull mugs and still make it to work on time.

Hi, I'm Jen. 🖤

I love horror, Halloween, old places, oddities, and all things paranormal.

I decorate, DIY, explore interesting places, and find ways to keep a bit of Halloween around all year.

Mostly, I'm just here to share what I love and whatever I happen to get into.

Stay spooky. 🖤💀

🎃 31 Nights of Horror | Nights 26 & 27 🎃

🎬 Night 26 — The Exorcist (1973)

What is there to say about this one? As someone who was raised Roman Catholic, this movie was practically a cautionary tale growing up. And since I’ve always believed in the paranormal, it STILL scares the bejesus out of me.

There are scenes that make me wince to this day. The characters are perfectly imperfect, and even after all these years and countless rewatches, I still find little things I hadn’t noticed before.

Since there are only a few days left until Halloween, I’ll be doubling up on some movies because I absolutely have to squeeze in The Exorcist III. It’s my favorite of the sequels, and Brad Dourif is perfection in it.

🎬 Night 27 — The Dark and the Wicked (2020)

Truly one of the most frightening movies I’ve ever seen.

Do not watch this at night.

Or do. 🤣

Just be prepared to be absolutely terrified. It is relentless. There is this feeling that something is terribly wrong from beginning to end. It gets under my skin every single time.

🎃 31 Nights of Horror | Nights 22, 23, 24 & 25 🎃

Catching up with our watches from the last few nights and tonight’s pick!

🦇 THE FRIGHTENERS (1996)

This was on rotation in my house growing up—it has such a dark humor, which my developing brain just took to. And at the time, some of the coolest effects I had seen from the green-screen days. And of course a young Peter Jackson directing. It’s such a great movie and honestly one I feel like people don’t talk about enough. If you haven’t seen it, definitely give it a watch!

🔪 A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 3: DREAM WARRIORS (1987)

One of my favorites from the Nightmare on Elm Street movies. I love the kills in this one and the practical effects. And can we talk about that Dokken song?!

🐺 AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON (1981)

One of the best werewolf movies ever made, and I will stand by that. Practical effects will always have my heart, and Rick Baker is king. I also love how this movie can be funny one minute and completely horrifying the next.

Also, random personal fact: Our tuxedo cat, London, is actually named after this movie. 🖤🐈‍⬛

⛓️ HELLRAISER (1987)

Clive Barker really gave us something with this one. It’s a cornerstone for horror. The Cenobites, the effects, the whole atmosphere of this movie. There’s just something about 80s horror and how far they were willing to go with practical effects. They really don’t make them like this anymore.

Only a few more nights until Halloween! 🎃

🎃 31 Nights of Horror | Nights 19, 20 & 21 🎃

Since we were at HHN Premium Scream Night on Monday, I’m posting the last couple of nights along with tonight’s movie!

Night 19: FROM DUSK TILL DAWN (1996) 🩸

This is one of my favorite movies of all time. I watched it way too young, and honestly, I think it tickled the horror part of my brain and never let go.

Robert Rodriguez at the helm, George Clooney as Seth Gecko is arguably one of his best performances, in my opinion. Quentin Tarantino, Harvey Keitel, Juliette Lewis, Salma Hayek, Danny Trejo… the entire cast is fantastic.

I love the characters, the dialogue, the humor, the practical effects, and how completely insane it gets. It’s one of those movies I could watch a hundred times and never get tired of.

If you’ve never seen From Dusk Till Dawn, you absolutely need to. One of my all-time favorites. 10/10!

Night 20: DRACULA (1931) 🦇

Last night was the original Dracula with Bela Lugosi!

It’s hard to believe this movie is nearly 100 years old. Such a classic, and what better time to revisit it than October? And yes, it still holds up. Great frights!

Night 21: POLTERGEIST (1982) 📺

And tonight we’re watching Poltergeist!

Another favorite from the 80s and one that I’ve watched countless times. I love a good haunted house movie.

Hard to believe we’re only ten days away from Halloween!

Have you seen all three? Which is your favorite?

🎃 31 Nights of Horror | Nights 17 & 18 🎬

Last night was Army of Darkness, a Mr. Ghoul pick! A change of pace. A little camp, a lot of ridiculousness, and just plain fun. 🤣

Tonight, we’re back to the dread and disturbing with The Night House. A first-time watch for both of us.

No spoilers here, because I really think this is one of those films you should go into knowing absolutely nothing. But if you enjoy a slow burn, twists and turns, and an overwhelming sense of unease and dread, this one is for you.

Still thinking about it. I’m still processing what I just watched.

🎃 31 Days of Horror | Nights 15 & 16 🎃

The last two nights have been all about folk horror gems from director Damian McCarthy, Oddity and Caveat.

Night 15: Oddity (2024)

A huge shoutout to one of my wonderful ghoulies, ‪@danigreen2595‬ on YouTube for recommending this one, how did I miss this one!? This one has easily become one of the best horror films I’ve seen in a very long time. The choices made in this film just knocked me out—cinematography, visual storytelling and atmosphere. Phenomenal. Highly recommend.

Night 16: Caveat (2020)

Tonight was a revisit to Caveat. The unbearable sense of dread throughout is a winner for me. And that rabbit! 🐇 Also, it reminded me that I really need to get around to DIYing one of those creepy little things for myself.

Folk horror is some of my absolute favorite horror, and these two films for the bill. Highly recommend both!

We’re halfway to Halloween! Hope you’re enjoying the season, whether you’re spending it with a good book, a horror movie, or something else that gets you in the Halloween spirit. 🎃🖤

🎃 31 Days of Horror | Nights 13 & 14 🎃

The last two nights have been all about folklore. I’ve seen both of these films before, but it’s been a while, and I really enjoyed revisiting them. They’re incredibly atmospheric, with some beautiful cinematography. I’ve always loved horror that makes you feel completely isolated, with that constant sense of dread.

🦇 Night 13 — From the Dark (2014)

This is an Irish vampire film that certainly draws on familiar folklore, but with a different take on the usual vampire rules. The Irish countryside as a setting and just how vulnerable the characters are make this one a very unsettling watch. Definitely worth a watch!

🌲 Night 14 — Antlers (2021)

Produced by Guillermo del Toro, and you can absolutely see his influence in the creature design. The Wendigo has always fascinated me, and there’s something especially frightening about how cruel and relentless it is. This movie doesn’t shy away from that. Really solid horror film and the performances are stellar.

We stayed up way too late watching this one tonight, and I’m sure we’ll be paying for it in the morning. 🤣 But honestly, worth it. 🖤

Have you seen either of these? I’d love to hear some of your favorite horror films inspired by folklore.

🎃 31 Nights of Horror | Nights 11 & 12 🎬

Night 11: Destination Truth – S02E07 (Aokigahara Forest) 🌲

If you’re a believer in the paranormal, or at least a curious skeptic, Destination Truth was one of the few paranormal television shows that actually built some credibility with me.

Josh and the team’s chemistry and humor made this one of my favorite shows back in the day, and it’s one I still revisit regularly. This particular episode genuinely gave me the creeps. Some VERY interesting evidence, too.

Night 12: The Nun II (2023) ⛪

Tonight we are watching The Nun II.

I actually appreciated that they filmed a lot on location. Seeing beautiful old European settings instead of everything being done on a soundstage is refreshing.

Does the movie go completely off the rails in the third act? Absolutely. 🤣 But I still appreciate the gorgeous cinematography, gothic atmosphere, and some decent scares.

Have you seen either of these? And does anyone else remember Destination Truth? 🤣

🎃 31 Days of Horror | Nights 9 & 10 🎃

Night 9 was The Yeti… well, I had such high hopes for this one! 😮‍💨 We had to experience at least one terrible horror movie this month. 🤣🤷🏼‍♀️ If you’re looking for a much better Sasquatch horror movie, I highly recommend Willow Creek (2013). It’s fantastically unnerving.

For Night 10, it’s Mr. Ghoul’s turn to pick, and tonight we’re watching Dog Soldiers (2002), one of his favorite werewolf horror movies.

Happy Saturday night, everyone! What’s everyone watching tonight? 🎃🍿

P.S. I’m also starting to edit my seasonal baking video that I finished filming today, so keep an eye out for that soon! 🖤🎃
