One year ago today, I felt like I was in a Ghibli movie, walking through the narrow streets of one of the most beautiful parts of Japan 🇯🇵 I will take any excuse to bring up Onomichi and Tomonoura in the most left-field of conversations. Looking back at everywhere I've filmed this year, from the northern coastline of Iwate Prefecture, to the ancient grounds of Ise Jingu in Mie, and the giant onion statue of Awaji Island, reminds me what an amazing country this is, with so many incredible places to explore.
If you were to ask me what my favourite video to film has been, I'd be so torn.
Visiting Hokkaido in summer has been at the top of my bucket list for so long, but meeting the incredible people of Iwate rebuilding their lives after the 2011 Earthquake and Tsunami affected me in such a way I could never have expected. I think that's my favourite thing about exploring Japan: the unexpected experiences that stay with you.
So if you're planning on visiting Japan in 2026, or 2027 (or whenever!), do yourself a favour and sort your eSIM out early. That's one unexpected thing you don't want to worry about!

Hey guys, there seems to be some confusion regarding the purification station process at shrines ⚠️ Please DON’T wash your hands or SPIT water back into the communal water! 💦 There is a drain on the outside above which everyone does it - you’ll see it!
But it has also been the most impactful experience. Meeting some amazing human beings and learning so much from them, about resilience, kindness, and what actually matters.
I naively thought I was just going on a few hikes along a beautiful coastline.
And I did do that, but I gained so much more from this experience than I ever thought imaginable.
And I am so grateful to everyone that gave me their time.
And that’s a wrap on 2025! Thank you to everyone who has spent time watching our videos, sending messages of support and joined me on all my adventures in Japan this year! 🫶 It’s been a pleasure sharing these memories with you all and I hope you have been able to find some of them entertaining or informative or inspiring for your own trips.

Just a quick update - I’ll be testing out different subtitle styles and formats in videos over the next few months.
As I get the hang of making videos for YouTube, I want to see what kind of subtitle approach works best, especially since this channel brings both English and Japanese together. I know some of you use the double subtitles to practice languages, so I’m sorry for any inconveniences this may cause.
I’m going to do my best to find a good balance that works for everyone.

Today marks 15 years since the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami
A day that changed so many lives, and one that continues to be remembered across Japan.
I have so many emotions just thinking about all the people I’ve met, who survived this terrifying day, or lost loved ones.
I cannot even imagine how they must be feeling
Today my thoughts are with the communities, families and stories that will never be forgotten.
今日は、東日本大震災から15年の節目の日です。
多くの人々の人生を大きく変え、日本中で今もなお記憶され続けている日です。
この恐ろしい一日を生き延びた方々や、大切な人を失った方々など、これまで出会ってきた多くの人たちのことを思うと、さまざまな感情がこみ上げてきます。
その方々がどのような思いで今日を迎えているのか、私には想像することさえできません。
今日は、決して忘れられることのない地域、家族、そして一つひとつの物語に思いを寄せています。

This was the hardest video I’ve ever done
I cried every time I watched certain parts of it
