Welcome to Simple Sense for Small Business, where creative thought meets critical thinking.
Mistakes are overrated. We call mistakes “glitches” here. They mold the mastery waiting to be revealed.
If you’ve ever wondered whether it’s fear or fate holding your business back, you’re in the right place. Hi! I’m Linda Rey, and along with my exuberant partner Trevor, we bring six decades of business experience to the table.
We blend practical wisdom with a mystical twist. Think strategy meets intuition. I read tarot for business owners who know that running a business isn’t just about spreadsheets and strategies. It’s about timing, instincts, and a little bit of courage.
Through Tarot Said So readings, we uncover the unseen forces behind your decisions, your setbacks, and your growth.

October is 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧'𝐬 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡. Ever wonder why observances like this exist? Usually, someone highlights a policy gap or a push for resources. This one is tied to a specific law. National Women's Small Business Month commemorates the Women's Business Ownership Act of 1988.
Before that, women had to rely on a male relative to co-sign for business loans.
Today, the SBA uses October to promote its programs for women entrepreneurs.
The agency itself dates back to 1953, when it was created to support small businesses in underserved communities. (𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘸𝘦'𝘳𝘦 𝘷𝘦𝘩𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘺 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘸 𝘉𝘐𝘓𝘓𝘐𝘖𝘕𝘈𝘐𝘙𝘌𝘚 𝘵𝘰 𝘲𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘺 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘴𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘤𝘦𝘴)
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗮𝗽𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹:
1. Women-led startups receive only a small single-digit share of venture capital dollars, and that share has barely moved in years.
2. Women-owned firms tend to be smaller by revenue and get smaller loans on average, though part of that reflects industry mix and firm age, not just bias.
3. Research on credit, hiring, and credit for scientific work shows bias effects that persist even when qualifications are held equal.
4. Meanwhile, participation is strong. By 2019, women-owned businesses made up 42% of all U.S. businesses, generating $1.9 trillion in revenue.
5. Women are building businesses at 𝒉𝒊𝒈𝒉 𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒔, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒈𝒆𝒕 𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒂𝒄𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒄𝒂𝒑𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒍 and less visibility for it.
That's the real value of a dedicated month: it points people to concrete resources like SBA-backed loans, counseling, and contracting set-asides.
𝕭𝖚𝖙 those resources only work if the agency delivering them has the capacity to do it well. In our experience working with small business owners every day, the SBA is stretched thin. 𝙏𝙝𝙖𝙩’𝙨 𝙥𝙪𝙩𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙩 𝙥𝙤𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙚𝙡𝙮.

Sometimes it’s overlooked that prevention is the solution. And why we pontificate about being proactive. But that isn’t exciting. The drama is part of the problem.

AI is getting a lot of attention, and honestly, the 𝓯𝓮𝓪𝓻 𝓪𝓻𝓸𝓾𝓷𝓭 𝓲𝓽 𝓲𝓼 𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓵. But here's some positive, inspiring data that helps small businesses grow and stay ahead of the curve.
𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗜 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀.
A new study tracked thousands of small businesses and found that the ones using AI 𝓱𝓲𝓻𝓮𝓭 𝟕% 𝓶𝓸𝓻𝓮 𝓹𝓮𝓸𝓹𝓵𝓮 in the first year than businesses that didn't.
The smallest businesses, those with under 10 employees, 𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙬 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙢𝙨 𝙗𝙮 𝟏𝟎%.
And this wasn't just tech companies. Restaurants, salons, construction firms, dental offices, even mental health clinics, all hiring more after adopting AI.
𝓦𝓱𝔂?
Because AI can handle admin, scheduling, paperwork, freeing owners up to focus on the work that actually serves customers. And then hire people to help do more of it.
