Welcome to Restitched By Design!
I’m a sewist, upcycler, and garment deconstructor with a passion for second-hand textiles. While I do incorporate new materials into my projects, the thrift store is my favorite place to hunt for fabric, vintage prints, and quality natural fibers.
On this channel, we treat secondhand clothing as both raw material and a hands-on case study in garment construction. We look at pieces through an investigative lens to explore the decisions made behind the seams—from brilliant tailored finishes to clever shortcuts and questionable design choices:
• Textile Hunting & POV Sourcing
• Garment Deconstruction & Analysis
• Creative Upcycling & Redesign
Whether you're here to understand garment anatomy, learn practical sewing perspectives, or see the potential in discarded clothing, you're in the right place. Subscribe, and let's rethink how we source, study, and make stuff!

Every once in a while rick rack makes an appearance. In this particular case, it seems to have taken over. What do you think?

Showcasing a pair of stretch denim jeans with after-market patching and stitching.
The fabric used for the visible mending portion felt like a twill, which seems heavy for these jeans, but it may have been what they had. The red fabric bled onto the jeans at some point. This could be because the fabric was not prewashed or because it's red, and red tends to bleed. A close-up of the stitching (see picture 3) seems to have pulled and gathered the fabric unnaturally. I wonder if it's because they rushed to complete the project, the red fabric pulled on the stretch denim because it was not prewashed (and the denim was), or something else happened. So many questions.

"Nobody puts Baby in the corner," especially during Halloween season!
I saw this dress at the thrift store, and I immediately thought of Dirty Dancing. I've linked a YT clip to that scene. I think this dress could also be one part of a couples costume. What do you think?

Found this baby pink top at the thrift store and immediately thought it was giving off fairytale vibes.
If you want to participate in the holiday festivities without wearing a full-blown costume, this puffy sleeves piece could work as a foundation. Pairing this top with a pink skirt of your choice makes it yours and creates a low-key princess look that would be comfortable and playful.
Are you going all-out with a traditional costume this year, or are you team closet cosplay?

Do you prewash your fabric? If no, please tell me what situation would convince you to do so. If you're a diehard no-prewash sewist, I'd love to hear whether you sun-bathe, wash after, or do something else instead.
