The Indian Team secured three medals at the IMMAF Angola Open MMA World Cup including a GOLD for Aarya Choudhary and two bronze medals.

🥇 Aarya Choudhary – Gold in the Women’s Atomweight (47.6 KG)

Aarya defeated Emília António of Angola in the final to claim the gold medal.

🥉 Aditya Dev Tripathi – Bronze at Men’s Flyweight (56.7 KG)

Aditya settled for a Bronze after suffering a loss to South Africa's Mduduzi Nkomo.

🥉 Prince Pandey – Bronze at Men’s Featherweight (65.8 KG)

Prince secured a win over Hugo Alonso of Peru in the quarterfinal stage before his semifinal bout, finishing the tournament with bronze.

Indian MMA Fighter Varun Sanyal has ruled out of the 2026 Asian Games on Medical grounds.

Sanyal experienced dizziness and muscle cramps while attempting to make weight ahead of his scheduled bout. The incident occurred during a sauna session as part of his weight-cutting.

Statement from the Indian Olympic Association ⬇️

“Varun Sanyal suffered from generalized cramps and bodyache while in the sauna last evening in his cruise accommodation. He underwent a medical examination and precautionary blood tests, which were normal. Despite rest, the following morning, he felt not fully fit to participate in a combat sport. After consultation with his coach, he withdrew on medical grounds.”

The Chief Minister of Meghalaya Conrad Sangma has taken over as the new Chairman of the United Muaythai Association of India (UMAI), marking a significant step towards strengthening the sport and bringing greater recognition to Muay Thai at the national level.

Adding to the excitement, there is also growing anticipation that Muay Thai may be included in the upcoming National Games, which could provide Indian athletes with an important platform to showcase their talent and compete at the highest level.

Welcoming the development, WMC India President Balkrishna Shetty said, “This is truly great news for the sport of Muay Thai in India. The new leadership has brought tremendous positive changes and a fresh vision for the development of the sport.”

Shetty also credited UMAI Secretary General Shri Ram Chaudhary for his dedication and hard work in bringing this new chapter to Indian Muay Thai.

“I would like to give special credit to our Secretary General Shri Ram Chaudhary for his continuous efforts and commitment. WMC India and UMAI stand unitedly for the development of Muay Thai, strengthening unity within the sporting community and creating better opportunities for athletes,” said Shetty.

He further expressed his gratitude to IFMA, the international governing body for Muay Thai, for its continued support, guidance and cooperation in developing the sport in India.

“With strong leadership, unity among stakeholders and the continued guidance of IFMA, I am confident that India will shine on the world stage in Muay Thai. This is a new beginning, and the future looks extremely promising for Indian athletes,” Shetty added.
