An air traffic control failure has disrupted flights in parts of the UK, about two weeks after a software glitch caused widespread flight chaos in the UK.

A number of departing and arriving flights at Scottish airports have been severely delayed, with disruption affecting Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England.

The technical fault has been reported at National Air Traffic Services (Nats)’ second control centre, at Prestwick in Scotland.

NATS said the issue is unrelated to the problems earlier this month, when more than 2,000 flights were cancelled to and from the UK due to a NATS software glitch, disrupting travel plans for hundreds of thousands of passengers.

Shortly before 3:30pm on 13 September, an Israeli airstrike killed a 15-year-old boy in Gaza city after a first strike on a man later identified by Gaza’s civil defense as the paramedic Sharif Shadi Labad. Israeli military said that Labad was targeted because he was a Hamas militant.

In a statement to the Guardian, the Israeli military said Sharif Shadi Ibrahim Labad was a Hamas terrorist who belonged to the elite Nukhba forces. The IDF stated that Labad had participated in the 7 October attacks in 2023 at the Erez border crossing and was targeted because he was planning new operations.

Asked why the second attack went ahead when its target was visibly a minor, the military did not respond, but said it ‘‘is aware of reports indicating that an uninvolved individual was harmed as a result of the strike targeting the terrorist" and "regrets any harm to uninvolved individuals and makes every effort to minimise such harm”.

The Israeli military said the incident was under review.
