𝐒𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬, 𝐰𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐚 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧.

We need to trust ourselves a little more.

Think about how often we say:

“𝐈’𝐥𝐥 𝐝𝐨 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐈’𝐦 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭.”

“𝐈 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞.”

“𝐌𝐚𝐲𝐛𝐞 𝐈’𝐦 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐲𝐞𝐭.”

“𝐈’𝐥𝐥 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤 𝐮𝐩 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐈 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐚𝐲.”

And without realizing it, we keep postponing the very thing we want.

I’ve noticed something in my own journey:

𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞.

The conversation becomes easier after we have the courage to begin it.

Confidence grows after we take the first step.

And sometimes, the version of us we are waiting to become…

is created by simply showing up today.

So, if there’s something you’ve been putting off because you don’t feel “𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲” enough-

Maybe you don’t need another plan.

Maybe you need to trust the person who has already come this far.

You’ve handled difficult days before.

You’ve learned things you once thought were impossible.

You’ve grown more than you give yourself credit for.

𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐲 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤.

What is one thing you’ve been postponing because you’re waiting to feel confident first?

Nothing.

You know what 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐚𝐲.

You 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐭.

You knew the next line 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 10 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐚𝐠𝐨.

And 𝐧𝐨𝐰 your mind is completely blank. 😶

You look at the 𝐚𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞.

𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐲 look at you.

And 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝, you’re thinking:

“𝐎𝐡 𝐧𝐨… 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨 𝐈 𝐬𝐚𝐲 𝐧𝐨𝐰?”

If this has happened to you, please know this:

"𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚 𝐛𝐚𝐝 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫."

It doesn’t mean you don’t know your topic.

And it definitely doesn’t mean you’re not 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭.

Sometimes, when we put too much pressure on ourselves to remember every word perfectly, our brain focuses more on “𝐀𝐦 𝐈 𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭?” than “𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐦 𝐈 𝐭𝐫𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞?”

That’s when the flow breaks.

I’ve seen this happen even with 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐬.

The solution?

Stop trying to memorise your speech 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝-𝐟𝐨𝐫-𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝.

Instead, remember:

1. "𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠"
Know how you want to begin.

2. "𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐤𝐞𝐲 𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐬"
Have 3–4 ideas you want your audience to remember.

3. "𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬/𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐬"
These help you naturally connect one point to another.

4. "𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠"
Know exactly what you want your audience to take away.

And if you still go blank?

"𝐏𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞. 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞. 𝐒𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐞. 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐞."

That pause will feel 𝐌𝐔𝐂𝐇 longer to you than it actually looks to the audience.

You don’t have to be 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭.

You just have to stay 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭.

Because your audience isn’t sitting there waiting for you to remember the exact sentence you rehearsed.

They’re listening to "𝐲𝐨𝐮".

So the next time you forget your words midway through a speech…

Don’t panic.

𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭. 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐚 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡. 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐠𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠.🎤

That’s not failure.

That’s learning to speak without depending on a script.

We celebrate Independence Day every year.

But there’s another kind of independence we rarely talk about.

"𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤."

To walk into a room and share your idea without thinking,
"𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐣𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐦𝐞?"

To disagree respectfully with a senior leader.

To ask the question everyone else is afraid to ask.

To present your work without shrinking your voice.

To lead a difficult conversation instead of avoiding it.

Because leadership isn’t just about having the authority to speak.

𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞.

I’ve seen incredibly talented professionals stay silent in meetings.

Not because they lack knowledge.

Not because they lack experience.

But because they’re still waiting to 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡.

Here’s what I’ve learned as a public speaking coach:

"𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤.
𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤."

So this Independence Day, perhaps ask yourself:

👉 Where am I still holding back my voice?

👉 What conversation have I been avoiding?

👉 What would change if I started speaking with more conviction?

Your voice is part of your leadership.

𝐃𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐨𝐦.
𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐭.

Speak up.

Stand tall.

Lead with courage.
