A Catholic Perspective

A Catholic’s Perspective started as a catechetical blog in 2021, designed to equip the Church Militant with the tools necessary to represent and defend the Church in a world that misrepresents it at every turn.

Today, it is a tool for ministry and evangelization for Catholics with weary hearts and souls, whether due to physical suffering, mental anguish, or emotional hardship. The goal is to help Catholics stay the course and know they are not alone, even when it’s hard. Starting in 2025, I will be sharing more of my experiences as a Catholic mom navigating these challenges.

You can still find videos that cover the first half of the Catechism and blog posts with additional resources on the A Catholic’s Perspective YouTube channel and the blog archives.

To God be the Glory!

A Catholic Perspective

Sometimes it takes years to look back and see what God was doing, and why. We are not meant to understand God’s ways or know all His reasons. We are only meant to trust.

Someone asked my favorite saint in the comments under a Short YouTube deleted, so I thought I would answer here! I would love to hear yours in the comments!

The Sacred Heart of Jesus has always been my go-to devotion, but when it comes to saints some of my favorites are:

- St. Joan of Arc (my confirmation saint)
- St. Therese of Lisieux and more recently her mother, Zelie
- St. Padre Pio
- St. Joseph
- Mary, especially the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Stella Maris, the Miraculous Medal, and more recently the Sorrowful Mother
- St. Francis de Sales
- St. Benedict and his sister St. Scholastica (though I would like to learn more about her)
- My guardian angel!

What are yours? ❤️

Becoming saints doesn’t mean being the best in a worldly sense; it means saying “yes” to God each and every day, no matter what that looks like.

Life isn’t about what you thought you were supposed to do or be. It’s about Him. It’s about letting Him be the potter and embracing the messy task of being the clay in His blessed hands.

Resources to get you started researching different ways to go about healing body, mind, and spirit. This is far from exhaustive and in no particular order. At some point, I will put together a more complete list of the resources that have helped me along the way and share it on Substack.

Podcasts for researching a broad range of topics and perspectives (not every episode is in line with Catholic teaching):
Wise Traditions by Weston A. Price (also their magazine)
Culture Apothecary with Alex Clark/Turning Point USA
Wellness Mama (also her website, you can search transcripts of episodes here)

Lyme/Myco/Tick-borne illness:
Dr. Bill Rawls (books and website)
Dr. Stephen Buhner (now passed away, but his book Healing Lyme and its companions about healing the coinfections lay the groundwork for understanding herbal treatment and how Lyme, mycoplasma, and other similar illnesses work and the full extent of how they can impact your health and well-being. I believe his old site with an archive of him answering questions is still up)
Nutramedix (herbal tinctures, the Cowden Protocol is a great place to start if you've used herbs before and think you may be suffering from a tick-related illness again)

Gut/Food:
Healthy Living with Angela Busby podcast (also great for overall health and kids' health)
Primal Kitchen/Mark Sisson website
Wheat Belly book (for suspected gluten sensitivity)
Elana's Pantry website for baking with almond flour/coconut flour
The Ember Collective (a Catholic holistic woman's magazine and website, these ladies are incredible)

Women's Health:
NaturalWomanhood.org
The Ember Collective

Catholic Mental/Spiritual Support:
Restore Wellness
The Ember Collective
Catholic Mom Calm (life coaching/brain retraining)
The Sunshine Principle book by Melody Lyons
Hallow app, specifically the meditations on Ignatian Spirituality by Fr. Timothy Gallagher and the healing meditations by Dr. Bob Schutts

NOT Catholic, but the free mini-course from The Gupta Program is a fantastic introduction to brain retraining and noticing/redirecting thoughts that keep us sick. If you do the free intro course, just swap in Catholic meditations or breathing exercises (I used the Hallow app) in place of the ones from the program. I did not use one of their paid programs, so I cannot speak for the content behind the paywalls.

Would love to hear your favorites below!

"His mercies are new every morning," may be one of the most comforting verses for a mother of little children. Every morning is a new opportunity to take a deep breath and pray for the grace to love them better. ❤️
