The Indian Women's Team mounted a strong comeback in Round 6 of the Chess Olympiad! After a tough loss against Poland in Round 5, India defeated USA by 3-1 in Round 6.
Savitha Shri Baskar scored the first win for Team India by defeating Rose Atwell in Board 4. Savitha is on a perfect 5/5 score now! Vantika Agrawal struck again to defeat Irina Krush. Koneru Humpy drew against Carissa Yip, and Divya Deshmukh drew against Alice Lee.

Imagine yourself in the shoes of Nihal Sarin. You are playing on Board 3 at the Chess Olympiad for India, and facing one of the strongest opponents of the tournament - Uzbekistan. Praggnanandhaa, Arjun and Gukesh have all drawn their games. And you have a complicated game going on against Nodirbek Yakubboev.
And then comes the tough part. Nihal had a winning position, but things turned around so fast - one slip, and Nihal lost his Queen. In a matter of few minutes, Nodirbek Yakubboev had a winning position! The crowd started filling up near the players exit - the media had started to gather!
And win he did. Nihal Sarin was left heartbroken, Team Uzbekistan overjoyed - there were incredible celebrations after Uzbekistan defeated India by 2.5-1.5 in Round 6 of the Chess Olympiad 2026. All the players of Team Uzbekistan came in to join!

The Indian Women's Team faces their first loss at the FIDE Women's Chess Olympiad 2026! Poland defeated India by 2.5-1.5 in the 5th round today.
Koneru Humpy made a draw against Oliwia Kiolbasa. Divya Deshmukh drew against Klaudia Kulon, and Vantika Agrawal drew against Monika Socko. It was Alexandra Maltsevskaya who scored the critical win for Poland - she played a great game to defeat Vaishali Rameshbabu with the White pieces.

D Gukesh scored a smooth win over Alexei Shirov in the 4th board. In the 2nd board, Arjun Erigaisi scored his first win of the tournament - he defeated Maksim Chigaev. Praggnanandhaa and Nihal Sarin drew against David Anton Gujjaro and Jaime Santos Latasa respectively in Boards 1 and 3.

Nihal Sarin and D Gukesh power Team India to a dominating match win in Round 3 of the Chess Olympiad 2026! India defeated Italy by a 3-1 margin - Praggnanandhaa and Arjun Erigaisi drew in the top 2 boards, while Nihal and Gukesh scored crucial wins in Board 3 and 4.
Both Nihal Sarin and D Gukesh scored convincing wins against Francesco Sonis and Sabino Brunello respectively. Praggnanandhaa had a winning opportunity against Lorenzo Lodici, but couldn't make the most out of it and the game ended in a draw. Arjun also had a winning position, but in the end it was Luca Moroni who had winning chances and Arjun had to defend accurately to hold the draw.
