🤯 Did you know guppies have actually been introduced to parts of the world to help control mosquitoes?

Guppies will happily eat mosquito larvae, and their appetite for tiny live foods is one of the reasons they became useful far beyond the aquarium hobby.

In fact, guppies have been deliberately introduced in some places for mosquito control — although releasing aquarium fish into the wild can also cause serious problems for native wildlife.

It’s a brilliant example of just how adaptable these little fish are.

And that adaptability is one of the things that makes guppies so fascinating to keep — but it doesn’t mean they’ll thrive in just any aquarium.

🤯 Did you know a female guppy can continue having babies even when there isn’t a male in the tank?

Female guppies are able to store sperm after mating and use it later to fertilise future broods.

So if you buy what you think is a single female guppy from your local fish shop… you might suddenly find yourself with a LOT more guppies than you were expecting. 😂

It’s one of the reasons guppy breeding can become so addictive — and sometimes a little overwhelming!
