Making money and building wealth are two different things! 👊 A successful business can create income and opportunities but what you do with those things can determine what that business builds for you and your family long term. This week inside Dirt to Dollars, we’re kicking off our Building Wealth Through Ownership series talking about having a wealthy mindset. We’ll be talking about how the way you think about money, opportunity, risk, and the future influences the decisions you make as a business owner in the trades. Join us live Thursday at 7PM ET and bring your questions! ➡️ www.skool.com/dirt-to-dollars/about
A lot of business owners spend years focused on making more money without ever really thinking about what they're building that money for!
You work to grow revenue, buy more equipment, add another crew, land bigger jobs, and hopefully have more left over at the end of the year. And there’s nothing wrong with any of that. That’s how a lot of us build the business in the first place.
But at some point, I think the question has to get bigger than “How do I make more money?” and turn into "What are you doing with the money you make?
Are you putting every dollar right back into the business? Building anything outside of it? Taking opportunities that could pay off years from now, or only looking at what makes you money this month? Are you avoiding every risk because you’re scared to lose what you’ve built, or taking risks without thinking far enough ahead?
You have to start thinking beyond the next job, the next piece of equipment, and even the next year. That’s why this week inside Dirt to Dollars, we’re starting a new series on Building Wealth Through Ownership, beginning with a wealthy mindset. We’re going to talk about how the way you think about money, opportunity, risk, and long-term wealth shapes the decisions you make as a business owner.
@trent_harris is putting on the Blue Collar Expo out in OK and I'll be there! If you guys are near the area, come by to enjoy the food and equipment and hang out!
Your business can’t grow if you’re stuck being the answer to every problem. 🤷🏻♂️ As the company grows, your focus has to change too. Less time getting buried in the day-to-day and more time leading the team, watching the numbers, and making decisions that move the business forward. That’s what we’re breaking down this week inside Dirt to Dollars. Ask questions live Thursday at 7PM ET ➡️ www.skool.com/dirt-to-dollars/about

Owning a business and actually doing the job of the owner are two different things! 🚨 A lot of us start out doing everything. You sell the job, run the equipment, answer the phone, manage the crew, fix the problems, send the invoices... whatever needs to happen, you handle it. And in the beginning, that's probably exactly what the business needs from you.
But eventually, the company needs something different. It needs somebody looking ahead instead of only worrying about today's schedule. Somebody holding people accountable, making the hard decisions, watching where the money is going, building the team, and deciding where the company is headed next. That's the part of ownership that's easy to put off when there's always something more urgent to do.
You can own the company for years and still spend most of your time doing jobs that someone else should eventually be responsible for. Meanwhile, the things that ONLY you can do as the owner keep getting pushed to tomorrow.
This week inside Dirt to Dollars, we're talking about your role as an owner, what your job should actually look like as the company grows and how to start spending more of your time doing the things the business needs from its owner.
Join us live Thursday at 7PM ET and bring your questions about where you're getting pulled into the business right now! ➡️ www.skool.com/dirt-to-dollars/about
Any of y'all going to Equip Expo in Louisville this year?? Want to stay with me and the Dirt to Dollars crew? 👀 We’ve got a private place near the expo and the stay will be included ONLY FOR THE NEXT 5 PEOPLE who join our VIP Roundtable program inside Dirt To Dollars. So if you’re already planning to go to the expo, this could cover your lodging while also giving you access to everything else that comes with our Roundtable program. You must still be an active member at the time of the expo to keep your spot.
Equip Expo is a huge hardscape and landscape industry show with equipment demos, vendors, educational speakers and a ton to check out. Y’all know I’m more of a dirt guy, and I’ve always found it worth going to, but now that I own the lawn shop too, I’m extra pumped for this year.
A bad estimate can follow you around for weeks or even months after you win the work. 👀 And the bigger the jobs get, the more expensive it becomes to get those numbers wrong.
That’s why I’m excited to have Brad Anthony from @TeachMeDirt, founder of Excavation Estimation, joining us inside Dirt to Dollars this Thursday. His team has estimated more than $5 BILLION in project value, so we’re going to have a lot to dig into.
We’ll talk through the estimating side of running a successful excavation business, lessons Brad has learned from seeing thousands of projects come across his desk, and what contractors should be paying more attention to when bidding work. Brad and I will also be answering your questions live, so come ready with them.
