I ended up deleting the Chainsaw Man staff list video I made for a few reasons. Partially there were a few things in hindsight I did differently, but also a good portion of this video was to be reassuring for anyone who thought the movie will be weak or not better than JJK. Having seen the leaked footage of the entire Bomb Devil fight, I can confidently say I think it’s going to speak for itself without any need of reassuring. It is genuinely one of the most mindblowing fights I’ve seen in animation of the likes of Sukuna vs Jogo and much more polished than Sukuna vs Mahoraga while maintaining that same level of ambition. It’s to the point where I don’t even know how much of a difference it would make to have more top level animators, such as the fake leaked ones because the result as is is something that I can’t imagine can be improved on. Many animators that may have seemed new a few years ago have grown immensely into top level status and have been given a canvas to go hog wild with creative freedom. I think that will be very clear when seeing this movie and I’m sure the non-action parts will be great too as there’s a slew of amazing character acting animators on the movie. Having said that, if you’re still interested in sakuga, definitely check out the staff list on the Keyframe Staff List website and check out Sakugabooru when the Blu-ray eventually releases to see which animators did which scenes because I’m sure it will be a field day over there. While it’s still unfortunate that many shows nowadays struggle to find the talent necessary to make their adaptations something special, it makes me appreciative of the few times when we do get something like this that feels on a whole other level. Same thing with today’s One Piece episode. Absolutely mindblowing stuff

As for the upcoming year of anime, I’m kinda excited for 2025, but also worried. On one hand, there’s going to be a lot of projects by veteran directors (Lazarus by Shinichiro Watanabe, the upcoming Lupin movie by Takeshi Koike, Gundam by Kazuya Tsurumaki and Hideaki Anno, Virgin Punk by Yasuomi Umetsu, and Panty and Stocking 2 by Hiroyuki Imaishi) and these projects feel like they’re giving us flavors of anime that we really haven’t seen in a while, but on the other hand, I’m worried on if there will be a big hit of an anime this year. Maybe Gachiakuta will be great but I feel as more and more good manga come out, people want them to get adapted into anime, but people don’t JUST want their series to get an anime, rather it needs to be a great adaptation. And I can’t say I’m not one to talk, as I felt the exact same thing reading Sakamoto Days (although I’m still looking forward to the anime). People’s standards are rising as to what’s a good looking show and the types of shows that blow up nowadays are shows with an insanely high degree of ambition, and some people are starting to see that as the norm as opposed to the peak of the medium. “Give this manga to MAPPA, give it to ufotable, give it to WIT, give it to Science Saru, give it to CloverWorks” and the reality is all of the production lines in these studios are booked beyond what they should even be capable of. It just kinda saddens me seeing these posts of “which studio should adapt (insert manga here)?” and people name the same few “goated” studios more so as vending machines for good adaptations as opposed to teams of people that could feasibly pick up the show. There’s also the problem of how there’s just too much anime being produced as well (along with some titles that aren’t even that successful getting 2nd seasons) and that not only contributes to the overwork in the industry, but it also naturally makes people more selective on what they want to watch, so if something isn’t the cream of the crop, people won’t be as willing to spend their time watching it. Sorry for the whole doomer rant and if you read this whole thing, thank you very much! I’m hoping the best for what’s to come in 2025, and if you guys have any thoughts on the current state of the industry, I’d love to hear them.
Really good video by Probably Pretentious that describes a lot of the thoughts I’ve been worried about with anime production. I feel like a lot of the most popular shows nowadays have also been some of the most sakuga heavy, and on one hand, it’s great that this many shows can get this level of treatment, but I think it’s also getting people comfortable that these sakuga shows are now the standard/norm of anime, which is very much not the case and now that more and more teams are busy, the industry is being spread thin and I feel like less and less new shows will be able to be produced at this level of quality aside from the occasional passion project. I don’t wanna get too doomer tho and I feel like he does a good job explaining the topic in this video. More sakuga MADs coming soon, but the next one will probably be the 2024 MAD

Although maybe I’ll make a commentary style video when Kagurabachi inevitably gets announced for an anime adaptation, but maybe by that point I might make another channel for that sort of thing, as I know it’s not the type of content people subbed for. As for MADs, I will have a 2024 MAD up for sure for the end of the year (I’m getting close to finishing it up but I want there to be some room for stuff like the latter Dandadan episodes and any highlights from stuff like Daima and Bleach), but as for other MADs before then, it’s hard to say. College this semester has been kinda crazy, even moreso this semester than others, but I also do want to get Character Acting MAD 2 out at some point as well, but it may not be till 2025
