⛔ Narrow Escape: Airbus - Boeing Incident at Sydney Airport

According to reports from foreign media citing the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB), an investigation has been launched into a near-accident that almost occurred at Sydney Airport, Australia, during ground operations involving an A320 and a B777.

At the time of the incident, a Jetstar A320 was taxiing in preparation for a flight. At the same time, a Qatar Airways B777 was being towed with the assistance of a tug vehicle. Reports state that the two aircraft came dangerously close to each other at an intersection where their ground taxi routes met.

Following the incident, it was reported that when the Jetstar crew realized the Qatar aircraft was extremely close to them, they attempted to apply the brakes. During this, a member of the cabin crew sustained minor injuries. All passengers were reported to be safe.

It was also stated that the Qatar aircraft sustained damage to its nose landing gear system while attempting to come to a stop.

Although it was stated that both aircraft had followed proper communication procedures, the ATSB has commenced an investigation to determine the cause of the incident.

However, such a Near-Collision cannot be taken lightly, as it highlights just how critical communication and situational awareness during airport ground operations are to overall aviation safety.
