“We completely forgot to invite you.”

I’ve heard this once from close friends.

They went on a trip without even telling me.

It hurt, but I forgave them.

After all, we had been friends for years.

Then it happened again.

And again.

And again.

Every time, I found a reason to forgive it because of how long the friendship had existed.

Until one day, I realised something:

It wasn’t an incident anymore. It was a pattern.

And I think that’s when you finally become free from something.

When you stop looking at individual incidents and start recognising the pattern.

I eventually stopped talking to them.

Not because I hated them.

Not because I wanted revenge.

But because I had finally understood what the pattern was telling me.

And today, I am so comfortable with myself that I hardly feel the need to be included or chosen.

There is a different kind of peace that comes when you truly understand your own value.

You realise you don’t need a huge group of people to have fun.

You can enjoy your own company.

You can go out alone.

Travel alone.

Build alone.

Celebrate yourself.

And genuinely be happy.

Not once. Not occasionally. But consistently.

And that’s the bigger lesson I took from this:

Start identifying patterns.

Not just in friendships.

In your career.

In your relationships.

In your habits.

In your finances.

In your decisions.

Because one incident can be an accident.

But repeated outcomes often reveal a pattern.

And once you understand the pattern, you can change the behaviour that keeps producing the same outcome.

The goal isn’t to keep asking, “Why does this keep happening to me?”

The goal is to ask:

“What pattern am I missing?”

Because once you recognise the pattern, you stop getting stuck in the same story.

And sometimes, that’s where your freedom begins. 🤍

At 17, I started CS.
At 20, I became a CS with Triple AIR.
At 23, I became a lawyer.
At 25, I bought my first car.
At 26, I have my own studio.

But this isn’t a story about achievements.
It’s a story about choosing myself.

Growing up, I always wanted to build something BIG.
When I chose CS, people told me:
“CS has no scope.” “You’ll regret it.” “It’s too difficult.”

I listened. But I didn’t let their opinions decide my future.
I gave CS everything I had.
I sacrificed comfort, friendships and countless hours.
And eventually, I earned an All India Rank.

Then COVID hit.
Finding a job was difficult, but I kept trying.
I got a job, pursued Law alongside it, and eventually became a lawyer.
I also started building my personal brand.
Because I knew I didn’t want just one source of income.
I wanted to build multiple skills, opportunities and income streams.

Then came another big decision.
I joined an MNC.
But I wanted to build something of my own.
So I quit. It was risky. But I chose to bet on myself.

I started my business, studied the market, identified gaps, tried different things and worked relentlessly.

Today, Rankerswave has grown to 10,000+ students.

Then came another emotional milestone. I bought my first car.

We didn’t have a car growing up, so gifting one to my parents meant more to me than the car itself. And as the business grew, I built my own studio a space to create, work and build what comes next.

Looking back, three lessons stand out:
1. Build multiple income streams.
Don’t put your entire future on one path.

2. Get comfortable being uncomfortable.
Most meaningful growth happens outside your comfort zone.

3. Listen to people, but make your own decisions.
Everyone will have an opinion about your life.
You’re the one who has to live it.

You don’t need to have everything figured out at 17, 20, 23 or 26.
Just keep moving.
Sometimes, one brave decision changes everything.

I hope I’m not the first person to tell you this but “action speaks louder than words.”

And if I’m not, and you already know this quote, then ask yourself:

Why do we still fall into the trap of believing someone’s words?

I’ve learned this lesson the hard way.

Some of the most trustworthy people I’ve worked with have been upfront, blunt, sometimes even a little rude.

And strangely, some of the people who have disappointed me, ditched me, misled me or even cheated me professionally or personally were the sweetest people I knew.

They always said the right things.

But when it actually mattered, their actions told a completely different story.

That taught me:

Don’t judge people by how beautifully they speak. Judge them by how consistently they act.

Someone can say, “I’m always there for you.”

But when you need them, they disappear.

Someone can say, “I completely support you.”

But when your decision affects them, their behaviour changes.

And sometimes, the person who genuinely cares about you will be the one who tells you:

“I don’t think you’re right.”

I’ve misunderstood such people too.

When someone disagrees with you, points out your mistakes or tells you something you don’t want to hear, it’s easy to think:

“Why are they being so rude?”

But real people have opinions.
Real people disagree.
Real people show vulnerability.
Real people sometimes tell you things you don’t want to hear.

And that doesn’t necessarily make them unreliable.

Of course, being blunt doesn’t automatically make someone trustworthy, and being sweet doesn’t make someone fake.

The real test is consistency.

Watch what someone does when there is nothing to gain, when you disagree with them, when things become inconvenient, or when nobody is watching.

Words create an impression.
Actions create evidence.

So give people time. Observe them.

Eventually, people reveal themselves not through what they promise, but through what they repeatedly do.

And that’s why “action speaks louder than words” isn’t just a quote for me anymore.

It’s one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned about trusting people.
