โ ๏ธ CORRECTION / UPDATE
After publication of video "Why Is Tis Hazari Called Tis Hazari? 30,000 Sikh Soldiers, MughalPrincesses, or the Mystery of 1857?" video,
A subscriber pointed out that the reference to Shri G.P. Mittal as the District & Sessions Judge of Delhi pertains to an earlier period when Delhi functioned as a single unified Sessions Division and District Judiciary.
Historically, the entire National Capital Territory of Delhi was administered through a centralized District & Sessions Division headquartered at Tis Hazari Courts and headed by one District & Sessions Judge.
However, due to rapid population growth, increasing litigation, and the establishment of new court complexes such as Saket, Rohini, Dwarka, Karkardooma and others, the administrative structure was reorganised.
Pursuant to Notification No. F.No. PS/DIV.COM/Misc./2011/1948 dated 11 September 2012, issued by the Government of NCT of Delhi, 11 separate Districts/Sessions Divisions were created by altering and modifying the existing district and sub-division boundaries. The notification came into force with immediate effect.
As a result, Delhi now functions through 11 independent judicial districts, each headed by its own Principal District & Sessions Judge (PDSJ).
Accordingly, the reference to Shri G.P. Mittal should be understood in its historical context and not as the present administrative position.
Important Clarification
โ๏ธ Tis Hazari remains Delhi's oldest and historically principal court complex.
โ๏ธ It continues to house the headquarters functions of the Delhi District Judiciary.
โ๏ธ However, it is no longer the sole district court for the entire city.
โ๏ธ Delhi now operates through 11 separate judicial districts spread across multiple court complexes.
โ๏ธ Names and postings of Principal District & Sessions Judges are subject to transfer, promotion and administrative orders issued by the High Court of Delhi from time to time.
I thank the subscriber who pointed out this historical and administrative distinction. โช@Lawsick-indiaโฌ

โ LAWKUMBH LEGAL DILEMMA
Imagine this.
A 20-year-old engineering student falls from a building and suffers a severe brain injury.
For 13 years, he remains in a permanent vegetative state.
He cannot speak.
He cannot recognize anyone.
He survives only through artificial feeding and medical support.
Finally, his parents approach the Supreme Court of India asking:
๐ Can we withdraw life-support so that he can die with dignity?
This is the real story behind the landmark case
Harish Rana v. Union of India (2026).
The Supreme Court has now revisited Indiaโs euthanasia jurisprudence and clarified the law on passive euthanasia and the right to die with dignity under Article 21.
But the bigger question remains.
โ Should the law allow a person to die when recovery is medically impossible?
๐ LawKumbh Poll
What do you think?
๐ Yes โ dignity should matter at the end of life
๐ Only with strict medical and legal safeguards
๐ No โ life must be preserved under all circumstances
๐ฌ Comment your view below.
Your answers will be discussed in the next LawKumbh lecture on this landmark judgment.

Landmark Supreme Court Judgment Reinforces Rights of Senior Citizens Under Section 23 of Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007.
๐น Case: Urmila Dixit vs. Sunil Sharan Dixit & Ors.
๐น Citation: C.A. No. 10927 of 2024 | Supreme Court of India
๐น Date: January 2, 2025
๐น Bench: Justices C.T. Ravikumar & Sanjay Karol
In a milestone ruling, the Hon'ble Supreme Court has reinstated the right of a senior citizen to reclaim property transferred conditionally under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007.
๐ The Crux:
Urmila Dixit, a senior citizen, had gifted her property to her son, Sunil Sharan Dixit, based on the assurance that she would be cared for in her old age. When that promise was allegedly brokenโand the relationship became abusiveโshe sought to revoke the gift under Section 23 of the Act.
The Apex Court:
โ Reversed the Madhya Pradesh High Courtโs Division Bench decision,
โ Reaffirmed that beneficial legislation must be interpreted liberally, and
โ Clarified that even if a gift deed lacks explicit written maintenance clauses, accompanying evidence (like a promissory note or other documentation) and breakdown in care obligations are sufficient to invoke Section 23.
๐ต โThe Act is not merely a statutory formalityโit is a social justice instrument to uphold dignity and protection for the elderly,โ the Court emphasized.
๐ Outcome:
The gift deed dated 07.09.2019 was quashed.
Possession was ordered to be restored to the appellant (Urmila Dixit) by February 28, 2025.
๐ฌ Why This Matters:
This case underscores that care obligations tied to property transfers must be honoredโand failure to do so gives legal standing to the elderly to revoke such transactions. It's a wake-up call in a society where many senior citizens silently suffer neglect after transferring their hard-earned assets.
๐ This is a precedent-setting decision in the arena of elder rights and social protection. Legal professionals, policymakers, and civil society must take note.
Letโs ensure our elders are cared forโnot just emotionally, but legally. ๐๏ธ

Excerpt of Nehru's Speech while moving the Objective Resolution.
"When I think also of the future, the greater future I hope, standing on this sword's edge of the present between this mighty past and the mightier future, I tremble a little and feel overwhelmed by this mighty task. We have come here at a strange moment in India's history. I do not know but I do feel that there is some magic in this moment of transition from the old to the new, something of that magic which one sees when the night turns into day and even though the day may be a cloudy one, it is day after an, for when the clouds move away."
"Others might take objection to this Resolution on the ground that we have not said that it should be a Socialist State. Well, I stand for Socialism and, I hope, India will stand for Socialism and that India will go towards the constitution of a Socialist State and I do believe that the whole world will have to go that way".
