September 26, 1969 - The Beatles released Abbey Road, their eleventh studio album.

Although *Let It Be* was published the following year, *Abbey Road* stands as the final studio effort recorded by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr as a functioning group. Crafted during the summer of 1969 amidst mounting personal friction and business tensions, the album captured four legendary musicians operating at the absolute height of their artistic powers, delivering a triumph of collaborative genius.

Side One features an extraordinary mix of individual songwriting styles. It opens with John Lennon's heavy, blues-infused groove "Come Together," followed immediately by George Harrison's sublime ballad "Something"—a track Frank Sinatra famously hailed as the greatest love song ever written. The side continues through Paul McCartney's energetic "Maxwell's Silver Hammer," the whimsical charm of Ringo Starr's "Octopus's Garden," and the relentless, driving rock intensity of Lennon's "I Want You (She's So Heavy)," which abruptly ends, leaving listeners breathless.

Side Two stands as a monumental landmark in rock music history, defined by its celebrated 16-minute side-two medley. Beginning with Harrison's radiant "Here Comes the Sun," the sequence seamlessly weaves unfinished song fragments into a majestic musical tapestry. Highlights include "You Never Give Me Your Money," "Sun King," "Mean Mr. Mustard," "Polythene Pam," and "She Came In Through the Bathroom Window."

The suite culminates in the dramatic drum solo and guitar trade-offs of "Golden Slumbers" and "Carry That Weight," leading into "The End"—a poignant, philosophical coda featuring the timeless line: "And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make."

In honor of John Lennon's 85th Birthday, Beatles fans and acoustic musicians gathered around the Imagine mosaic at Strawberry Fields in Central Park to perform this landmark album in its entirety. This special live performance captures the energy, community, and enduring spirit of Lennon's legacy brought to life in the heart of New York City.

The iconic cover image of the band walking across the zebra crossing outside @abbeyroad Studios remains one of the most recognizable album covers in history. Over five decades later, *Abbey Road* endures as a masterpiece of production, songwriting, and harmony.

July 31, 1968 - ‪@TheBeatles‬ headed into the studio to begin recording their timeless anthem "Hey Jude"!

Here are the key details and highlights from the legendary sessions:

* The Recording Studio: After initially trying to work at Abbey Road, the band moved to Trident Studios in Soho, London, to take advantage of advanced 8-track recording equipment that wasn't yet available at Abbey Road.

* Written for Julian: ‪@PaulMcCartney‬ originally wrote the song as "Hey Jools" to comfort John Lennon’s young son, Julian, during his parents' divorce.

* John Saved the Best Line: Paul planned to change the line "The movement you need is on your shoulder," but John Lennon insisted it was the best lyric in the song and convinced him to keep it.

* Ringo's Restroom Dash: While recording the master take, Paul started playing the piano intro without realizing Ringo had briefly stepped away to the restroom. Ringo had to frantically tiptoe and sprint back to his drum booth, arriving just in time for his iconic drum entrance—with timing Paul later described as "absolutely impeccable."

* What Everyone Played:

* Paul McCartney: Played the upright piano intro, delivered the soaring lead vocals, and later overdubbed the bass guitar.

* ‪@johnlennon‬: Played acoustic guitar and provided harmony backing vocals.

* ‪@GeorgeHarrisonOfficial‬: Played electric guitar lines to complement the verses.

* Ringo Starr: Played drums and tambourine (right after his hurried return!).

* Breaking the Records: At over seven minutes long, it was an unprecedented length for a pop single at the time, yet it became the very first release on their new Apple Records label and a massive global chart-topping smash.

Abbey Road is one of my favorite albums, and I come back to it often. I usually listen to the original recording, but sometimes I prefer to experience it through these fan performances.

I love these gatherings at Strawberry Fields because they truly demonstrate the enduring love and power of The Beatles' music. People travel from near and far to participate in these sing-along celebrations. They bring guitars, basses, tambourines, drum kits, keyboards, songbooks, amps, and lights. The entire production is 100% fan-organized. These are friends, strangers, and strangers who have become friends over the years, all gathering in the park to joyfully perform the music of The Beatles. Events like this are easily one of the coolest things you will see on the streets of NYC.

I look around and see all ages, men and women, various races and nationalities. It’s a pretty powerful sight, and right then, I don't have to "imagine all the people" because I am looking at them right before my eyes. In those musical moments, we achieve a true brotherhood of man.

Not only are they performing Beatles' songs, they are performing them as complete works like Abbey Road. The love of the music sparking the ambition to perform and get through the whole album. For those of you who watch the whole video, I know your heads were bobbing on “Come Together”! You had to be swaying on “Something”! You absolutely were singing full pipes on “Oh! Darling”! Tell me you were not smiling and perhaps a little misty by the time the band and crowd get to "Golden Slumbers" and they’re heading for home!

‪@TheBeatles‬ have received riches and every accolade known in music and pop culture—and deservedly so! Having achieved all of that success, I believe that ‪@PaulMcCartney‬ and ‪@ringostarr‬ (and ‪@johnlennon‬ and ‪@GeorgeHarrisonOfficial‬, were they still with us) would feel the most gratification from seeing a video like this.

Looking at all the smiling singing faces, I would say you passed the audition! Well done, lads!

A big thanks to all the musicians that come out every year, rain or shine, to make these celebrations possible. Shout out to , , . Appreciation for everybody who comes out to sing!
