Matcha on Monday is my fourth book by Michiko Aoyama, and by now, she has become my go to author whenever I want a comfort read. After What You Are Looking For Is in the Library and Hot Chocolate on Thursday, I already knew I was going to enjoy the gentle, warm feeling of this book. This one takes us back to the Marble Café, which opens as a Matcha Café on Mondays. What I really liked is the way the book is divided into twelve months, from January to December. Each month brings a different short story and a different person, but slowly you realise that these people are connected in small and unexpected ways.

I actually took my time with this book instead of rushing through it. Some stories are very short, while others stay with you a little longer, and each one has something small to say about life, choices, relationships and finding your own way. That is what I enjoy about Aoyama's books. They are simple and easy to read, but there is usually a little thought hiding underneath the story. The Marble Café becomes this comforting space where people come and go with their own worries, and sometimes even a small conversation, a cup of matcha or a kind gesture can make someone's day feel a little lighter.

Things that stayed with me:
• We never really know how much a small act of kindness can mean to someone else.
• Everyone has a story, even the people who seem like background characters in our lives.
• It is never too late to choose something that genuinely makes you happy.
• Sometimes you don't need a big solution. You just need a little time, kindness and someone who listens.

And honestly, if you already have Hot Chocolate on Thursday or What You Are Looking For Is in the Library, this feels like such a lovely addition to the collection. The yellow, colourful hardcover is also incredibly cute and makes it feel like a book you would want to keep on your shelf. I would definitely recommend reading this one slowly, one story at a time, rather than trying to finish it quickly.
