Are we measuring what really matters in wound care?
In our latest episode of the Open Wound Research Podcast, Caroline Fife, MD challenges us to think beyond the wound itself. Patients may have multiple wounds, significant comorbidities, and very different probabilities of healing—yet our research and outcome measures often remain focused on a single wound.
What if we shifted our focus toward total patient outcomes, disease severity, prevention of new wounds, and the factors that determine whether healing is realistic in the first place?
Swipe through for some of Dr. Fife’s key perspectives, and listen to the full conversation for a deeper discussion on research, real-world data, quality measurement, and the future of wound care.

🩹 What can burn care teach us about wound care?
Our conversation with Dr. Roselle Crombie highlighted several important lessons that extend well beyond burn surgery:
🔹 Every surgeon needs to understand wound care. Wounds are part of virtually every surgical specialty.
🔹 Prevention starts early. Treating an acute wound effectively also means thinking about how to prevent progression to chronic wounds.
🔹 Burn recovery is lifelong. For many survivors, care doesn't end when the wound closes. Healing, prevention, function, and quality of life continue long after the initial injury.
🔹 Education matters. Standardizing competencies across multidisciplinary teams can help improve consistency and patient outcomes.
👉 Swipe through for the key takeaways from Dr. Crombie's interview.
