My name is Herman Liesemeijer, I live in the Netherlands in a town called Heerenveen. My fascination for lost race tracks started after a visit to the abandoned circuit of Nivelles-Baulers in Belgium in 1998. In 2003 I founded the MSM Group "Circuits of the past", which became a real website in 2008. This website is dedicated to the lost racing circuits. Through the years I visited many old race tracks.
Since 2014 I'm focusing on making videos. In 2018 I bought a drone to make spectacular aerial footage and I started with live vlogs.

NEW FOOTAGE AT LAST! 🏁🎥
It has been quite a while since I uploaded a new video to the channel. But today I was back doing what Circuits of the Past is all about: exploring and documenting a forgotten race track!
I managed to film and photograph the complete circuit, and judging by what I found there today, this abandoned track may not remain in its current state for much longer...
So yes: a brand-new Circuits of the Past video is coming! And there will also be a new article on the website.

23 YEARS OF CIRCUITS OF THE PAST ❤️🏁
To end today's 23rd anniversary, I want to look back at a video I made three years ago for a very special milestone: 20 Years of Circuits of the Past.
The video premiered on Friday, September 15, 2023. I had planned to be there in the live chat, celebrating the anniversary together with everyone watching.
But that day turned out very differently.
While congratulations were appearing in the chat, I was sitting at my father's deathbed.
It is something I will always associate with this anniversary video. A celebration of 20 years of Circuits of the Past became connected to one of the most difficult moments of my life.
Today, three years later, Circuits of the Past turns 23. So I'd like to share this video once again — looking back at how a small project about forgotten race tracks grew into something that is still going strong after all these years.

As Circuits of the Past celebrates its 23rd anniversary today, here's the most watched video in the history of the channel:
Old Spa-Francorchamps Full Lap – Exploring the Forgotten Sections
More than 702,000 views — and quite a few arguments along the way!
While filming the old Spa-Francorchamps circuit, I repeatedly got stuck behind very slow Sunday drivers, sometimes travelling around 20 km/h below the speed limit. Unfortunately, this happened mostly on the least interesting section of the old circuit.
So in the narration we decided to have some fun with it. I wrote a few jokes into the script, and narrator Simon Smith added a few of his own.
Most viewers understood the humour. Some definitely didn't. A few reactions became so abusive that they had to be removed. 😄
That helped make this not only the most watched Circuits of the Past video ever, but probably the most controversial one as well.

23 YEARS OF CIRCUITS OF THE PAST! 🏁🎂
On September 19, 2003, Circuits of the Past went online for the very first time — not as a website, but as an MSN Group.
But the story actually started a few years earlier at the abandoned Nivelles-Baulers circuit in Belgium.
In 1998, I visited the remains of the circuit and drove a few laps on the old, bumpy track. I returned later that year to photograph the entire circuit. Watching Nivelles slowly disappear beneath a business park gave me the idea to preserve the memory of lost race tracks.
Nivelles led to Reims, the old Zandvoort and eventually many more forgotten circuits.
What started as a small Dutch-language hobby project 23 years ago grew into Circuits of the Past as you know it today.
