Weekly videos about samplers, beatmaking, sound design, and dawless music production. From hardware workflows and iOS music production to live performances, this channel is all about creative music-making within the wonderfully weird limitations of modern instruments
Whether working with a pocket sampler, guitar or a single field recording, the goal is always the same: spend less time searching for the perfect gear and more time creating.

It was awesome hearing everyone’s thoughts on DOOM OS in the recent poll!
I’m working on a video about DOOM OS and this bigger rise of custom firmware we’ve been seeing with music hardware. The more I’ve looked into DOOM OS, the more impressive I think a lot of what it adds looks, even if I still have some hesitation about installing unofficial firmware on an SP404 I rely on all the time.
I’d really love to show some footage from people who are actually using it.
If you’re using DOOM OS and have footage you’d be willing to let me use in the video, send me a DM on Instagram @sunwarper.
I’ll credit you in the video as well :)

Have you tried DOOM OS on the SP404 MK2 yet?
I’ve been seeing a ton of interesting custom firmware projects popping up for music gear lately, but I’ve got some conflicting thoughts about installing unofficial firmware on devices that are still supported.
DOOM OS looks sick, but the more screen-dependent workflow is definitely not why I use the SP404.
If you’ve tried it, let me know how it is! And if you haven’t, what keeps you from installing it?
Also, if you missed it, I posted a full breakdown of how I built my latest SP404 live set here:

It’s been a pretty busy couple of weeks in the studio!
I’ve been having a blast experimenting with some different workflows lately, from trying the Dirtywave M8 for the first time to figuring out how to turn my finished tracks into an SP404 live set.
It’s been great seeing the response to the M8 video this past weekend, especially all the conversations it’s sparked!
This Saturday we’re going back to the SP404 to break down how I turned those tracks into a live performance, and after that I’ve got something interesting coming with Koala Sampler’s recently updated stem splitter.
Lots of music making happening over here lately!
What have you been working on?

After using the SP404 to make my latest EP, I ended up with songs scattered across different projects, with some eventually moving into the DAW for additional mixing and mastering. So when it came time to turn everything into a live set, I faced a bit of a dilemma: how do I bring all of these finished songs back together and turn them into something I can actually perform on just the SP?
I ended up using a bunch of different performance methods, effects and DJ-style transitions to make the whole thing work using just the SP404.
The new live set is up now!

I’ll have another video in a couple of weeks breaking down exactly how I built the set and turned the finished songs back into something I could perform live ☀️
