I just reuploaded my video about Australia, and I know this is an unpopular move. So, let me explain.
When I started on YouTube, I had only one goal: to make the best videos I could possibly make. At that time, I had a weird obsession with Latin American protest music, and so I decided to explain Latin American history using the lyrics of famous protest songs.
To me, that was extremely interesting and fun. But using third party music meant that every video would be demonetized, and it turned out that not that many English speakers shared my passion for Latam protest music. Strange huh?
And that was fine. I made these videos for myself, and I had no intention of ever scaling this up to be a business. But each video took me 30-40 hours to make. After producing 10-15 of them, I decided to do something differently.
What if I could find a niche that I'm just as passionate about, but with a topic that other people also find interesting.
That became Hindsight.
Now, since about 2 years, I'm doing this full time. Last year was a great year for my channel, but this year things have been slow. My videos aren't recommended as much as before, but I now financially depend on this channel.
That's one of the reasons why I recently started a second YouTube channel, C2 Center. It's just relieving at times to work on videos with no expectations of performance, and no strings attached.
Now to my Australia video.
That video performed VERY poorly, and YouTube provides some insight into why this might be. People clicked on the video, they were watching it, and they engaged positively. Everything pointed at this video being a good video (and I'm proud of how it turned out!)
Except for one thing: the first 30 seconds.
I made the mistake by talking about Canada in the first 10-15 seconds. The video is about Australia, so when people clicked on it, and they hear me talking about Canada, they click away. That tiny mistake, I believe, meant that the entire video never stood a chance.
I work many dozens of hours on each video and it really sucked that one little mistake in the intro can kill a video. I call that the "social media" part of YouTube, and I know it's important to get right. But my passion is for non-fiction storytelling, and the importance of such "social media" tactics can be frustrating at times.
That's why I redid the intro, and I uploaded it again. And I know many people see this as a cheap trick to get views, but I'm seeing it as a last chance to get an audience for a video that was basically dead.
YouTube doesn't normally promote reuploads, and there's a decent chance this video won't take off. But if you want to help me give it a boost, watch the video (again), engage with it, and trigger the algo in any shape or form to give it that little push to a wider audience.

We're hiring! I'm looking for a writer to join our team. You'll be working closely with me on doing the research, refining the video concepts, and writing the scripts.
My ideal candidate will have a background in film, or an advanced knowledge about storytelling. I prefer someone who is passionate about documentary filmmaking over creating YouTube videos. If you have some education in film, that would be considered a plus. I'm looking for someone who knows how to craft narratives, is well-read on global events, and has a killer work ethic.

I'm quite proud about how this one turned out. I like how it's a subject that makes you think, and the main topic is not an event, but a debate. It's a bit more philosophical in nature, but as always, I want to stick to facts and data. That created an interesting set of ingredients for a video and it was so much fun to make.
The views are a bit lower than usual for the first weekend but I don't take that personally. I'm getting a lot of positive feedback on the video and that matters a lot to me. If you want to help this video take off, please watch it, engage with it, and share it.
I'll be reviewing how the video performs while I'm writing the next video about the US border with Mexico. 🇲🇽
