Exile and the Eucharist

Where the Eucharist meets the Rising Sun. One convert's honest life at the edge of the Christian world.

Exile and the Eucharist

Stay tuned. St. Thérèse of Lisieux is about to become part of this channel in a new way, and I can't wait to share it with you.

Exile and the Eucharist

I want to go deeper in my faith, but I'll be honest — jumping into something like "study the Gospel of Luke" on my own feels too big for me right now. I don't know enough yet to structure that myself.

So I'm asking you: any Bible studies or courses you'd recommend that are already put together for someone in that spot? Something with a clear path, not a blank page. Drop your favorites below — I'll actually go through them.

Exile and the Eucharist

Something has been on my heart since this channel began.

In just one month, people have found their way here from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Argentina, Spain, the Philippines, Indonesia and beyond. All gathering in the comments of a small YouTube channel run by one American Catholic convert living in Sapporo, Japan.

I want to give something back.

This Saturday I am going live to pray the Rosary — and I want to carry your intentions with me.

Make sure you are subscribed so you can join in to the Live Stream.

Leave your prayer request in the comments below. For yourself. For someone you love. For something you have been carrying alone that feels too heavy. Every single intention will be placed on screen so our entire community can pray over every name together.

If you want to remain anonymous, just put your request without your name, I will compile the list and have it on screen during the Rosary so everyone can focus their intentions to those who have requests.

You don't need to show up to receive the grace of it. Just leave your intention below. We will carry it.

All are welcome. Catholic, curious, or somewhere in between. Let's all gather and pray for those who need prayers.

Saturday — 10:00am Japan time

That is Friday evening for most of our friends in the Americas:
🇺🇸 9:00pm Eastern • 8:00pm Central • 7:00pm Mountain • 6:00pm Pacific
🇦🇷 🇪🇸 10:00pm Friday
🇵🇭 4:00am Saturday
🇬🇧 2:00am Saturday

Exile and the Eucharist

A viewer named Stefano asked me a simple question in the comments — what does the walk to Mass actually look like?

So I showed him.

7 minutes on foot. 15 minutes on the subway. 10 minutes through a quiet Sapporo morning. All to get to a 7am Mass in Japanese that I can barely follow.

Some mornings the walk feels like prayer. Some mornings it just feels like a walk.

Either way, I go.

Exile and the Eucharist

Walking to Mass this morning at 6am. Sapporo is completely silent at that hour. There's something about starting the day before the city wakes up. More on this tomorrow night.

Exile and the Eucharist

It's live. The night I was baptized. Raw footage, Fr. Ken, Christmas Eve in Japan. I've been sitting on this footage for months not knowing if I was ready to share it. I think I am now. Link in the channel. God bless. 🙏

Exile and the Eucharist

Something happened this week that I wasn't prepared for.

I made a video. I told the truth. And somehow, in a way I still don't fully understand, it found its way to people all over the world.

Over 21,000 views. 1,000 subscribers. Comments from Argentina, the Philippines, the United States, the UK, Australia — and so many more. People quoting lines back to me that I wrote alone in a quiet room in Hokkaido, Japan.

I'm genuinely humbled. Thank you.

---

YouTube has just activated the Community tab for this channel — and I want this to be exactly that. A community. Not just a place where I talk and you listen, but a place where we actually find each other.

Because if this week taught me anything, it's that there are a lot of us out there — quietly carrying our faith, or our questions, or both — and we don't always know the others exist.

So let me ask you something I've been thinking about:

👇 Has a single sentence, or a single moment, ever completely changed the direction of your life?

It doesn't have to be about faith. It doesn't have to be dramatic. Sometimes the smallest things shift everything.

I'd genuinely love to read your answers.

---

Also — this Saturday I'm releasing something very personal. Raw footage and commentary from the night I was baptized into the Catholic Church on Christmas Eve.

I hope you'll be there for it.

God bless you all. 🙏
