1. It's not all or nothing... it's all or *something.* Save something even if it's pennies. You are working on building the habit of saving money.

2. Your budget won't look like mine. Mine won't look like yours. We're all having unique life experiences that require a budget tailored to each of our situations.

3. No budget is perfect, and life is going to happen and throw a wrench into the works at some point. Work on building up your financial cushions - your emergency fund and sinking funds.

4. Your budget may not be perfect but you can work on perfecting your process/routine. Give every dollar a job, track every expense, know what your money is doing.

5. Allow yourself time (and grace). Paying off debt and saving money takes time, intention, and discipline. You may not be able to "fix" your financial situation overnight, but having a plan and a process to achieve your goals should be your focus. Celebrate all of your wins along the way, big and small.

Thoughts... Cash budgeting DOES NOT mean you pull all of your money out of the bank - it means you spend cash on frequently bought things to avoid overspending or use cash to organize some of your savings goals, we call them sinking funds.

If you're not into carrying cash at all, you can always opt to use an online bank like Ally which offers digital cash envelopes called buckets to organize your money.

Make budgeting fun, make it habitual, and, whichever way you choose to budget, make it work for you.
