Final Fantasy Resonance is fun. Don't know if I'll review it, but I'm about 20 hours deep and it's the most this series has felt like the classic games in a loooooooong time. It's got problems, and Square absolutely needs to patch in an option to disable that hideous depth of field filter that turns the entire game into a blur, but I'm having a good time. I recommend playing it on expert mode :)
I'm kicking off a series where I share my thoughts about popular RPG franchises. That way, whenever somebody asks me what I think about so and so series, I can point to the videos. They're gonna be around 15-20 minutes each. Please vote on what I talk about in the first video!
The Resident Evil movie suuuuuuuuucked LOL. Anyone that's hating on it for "having nothing to do with Resident Evil," you know what, that's not the problem. I don't even care about that point. The problem is that it's two movies duct-taped together. The first half is a pretty decent horror movie. Some spooks, some cool scenes, it's not bad.
Then they decided "you know... what if we made this an action comedy?" Threw away the horror and doubled down on the main character mumbling the f-word literally hundreds of times. And yeah, the characters have some one-liners in the games, but they're not comedic games. This movie IS a comedy, AND the director had to cut some jokes because of test screenings? Jesus Christ.
So in that sense, it IS like Resident Evil, because Capcom themselves can't decide if this is a horror series or an action series. RE9 is the same as this movie, where the first half is a pretty all right horror game, and then it's junk food, crowd-pleasing shlock. Commit to one or the other. Or don't. Fans are eating this up with a smile.
Wow. I'm very disappointed with the Onimusha 5 demo. As a somewhat recent fan of the series (started with the first game 4 years ago), the notion that the series needs to reinvent itself to attract new fans is absurd. This is for fans of the Batman Arkham series, not so much Onimusha fans. Very little here is reminiscent of the first three games. Maybe this is for the Dawn of Dreams fans...
If you're new to Onimusha and were at all interested in this, Capcom currently has their Onimusha 1 and 2 ports on sale, and I'd wholeheartedly recommend them (or emulating the PS2 originals). As for this one, maybe if you like Batman and want that set in feudal Japan, try out the demo.
