Skytrax’s 10 Five-Star Airlines in 2026

Skytrax currently recognizes 10 airlines with its prestigious 5-Star Airline certification, based on the latest status reported around September 19, 2026, in connection with the 2026 World Airline Awards.

The 5-Star Airline rating is an independent certification based on Skytrax’s assessment of factors including cabin products, service quality, staff performance, cleanliness, airport services and overall passenger experience. It is separate from Skytrax’s passenger-voted World’s Best Airline ranking.

Among the highlights from the 2026 awards, Hainan Airlines retained its 5-Star status for the 15th consecutive year. Qatar Airways and STARLUX Airlines also retained or confirmed their 5-Star certification, with STARLUX additionally being recognized as the World’s Cleanest Airline.

It is important to distinguish this certification from Skytrax’s separate 2026 World’s Best Airlines passenger survey. In that ranking, Singapore Airlines placed first, followed by Qatar Airways, Cathay Pacific, ANA and Turkish Airlines.

Together, these awards highlight two different aspects of airline performance: the 5-Star certification focuses on audited service and product standards, while the World’s Best Airlines ranking reflects passenger voting.

Large Panoramic Cockpit Display: The F-35 replaces many traditional gauges and mechanical instruments with a large, wide touch-sensitive panoramic LCD display, giving pilots access to critical flight and mission information through a unified interface.
No Conventional HUD: Unlike many modern fighter aircraft, the F-35 does not use a traditional head-up display mounted in front of the pilot. Instead, essential flight, targeting and sensor information is projected directly onto the pilot’s Helmet-Mounted Display System (HMDS) visor.
Side-Stick Flight Controls: The cockpit uses a side-stick controller positioned on the right side, while the throttle is located on the left. These controls work with the aircraft’s fly-by-wire flight-control system to provide precise handling.
Advanced Pilot Interface: The cockpit also incorporates Direct Voice Input (DVI), allowing pilots to perform certain basic functions using voice commands. Combined with the helmet-mounted display, touchscreen interface and ejection-seat system, these technologies create a highly integrated cockpit designed around the pilot.

A shipment of unserviceable F-35 Lightning II components, including a cockpit canopy treated with a stealth radar-absorbent coating, was reportedly diverted to Hong Kong while being transported from Australia to the United States for repairs.
According to a Politico report published on September 18, 2026, the shipment was being moved by a commercial logistics intermediary on behalf of Lockheed Martin when it was rerouted during its Pacific transit earlier this summer. The Pentagon’s F-35 Joint Program Office has confirmed a “shipment issue involving unserviceable F-35 Lightning II components” and said it is working with U.S. authorities and industry partners to recover the equipment, investigate what happened and strengthen safeguards. Some components are reportedly still missing, while the reason for the diversion and their current location remain unclear.
The cockpit canopy is considered particularly sensitive because it incorporates a thin transparent radar-absorbent layer that contributes to the F-35’s low-observable characteristics. The technology is subject to strict U.S. export and security controls. Australia operates F-35s and supports the program, but damaged canopies are sent to the United States for specialized repair because Australia does not currently have the required repair capability.
The incident has reportedly triggered briefings for congressional national security staff, with concerns heightened by Hong Kong’s status as a Chinese special administrative region. The possibility that sensitive components could potentially be examined by an adversary has raised security questions surrounding the F-35 supply chain.
However, there is currently no public evidence that Chinese authorities obtained, inspected or exploited the components. Lockheed Martin has stated that it follows applicable U.S. shipping regulations and remains focused on protecting the integrity and security of the F-35 global supply chain.
