While often associated with pop-leaning reggae, Ruffinâs career stretched across rocksteady and early reggae, both as a solo artist and as a member of The Techniques and The Shades.
He found his biggest international success with âRainâ and âMad About Youâ, but his wider body of work is well worth exploring.
This weekâs Artist of the Week is Nicky Thomas. đ¶
Born Cecil Thomas in Fruitful Ville, Portland, Jamaica, in 1944, he first made a name for himself with âRun Nigel Runâ, produced by Derrick Harriott.
The track became a major success, earning Thomas the nickname âMr. Nigelâ and helping him take an important step in his life as he was able to purchase his first home in Kingston.
