Just heard from one of my viewers, Ilana from Netherlands, that they did it: Caran d’Ache launched limited colours from 50th anniversary in sets without the rest of the colours! What do we think? I have mixed feelings but I ran and ordered the full 15 “botanical” set from their website because I cannot fight it
I was struggling with the idea of Etchr ceramic palette for a while: I love the option to have a nice ceramic splitted mixing space when I’m on vacation, but I don’t like the idea of carrying my paints in a heavy ceramic palette where it gives no benefits, only added weight and a risk to crack it, plus the wells are too small to use my normal brushes comfortably.
But finally I settled on the solution (and bought the palette): 3d-printed plastic palettes with the suiting wells, one is very custom to my preferences and amounts of paints I use, the other is flexible with half pans that can be replaced. Additional benefit is that the plastic palette is softer and it protects the ceramic mixing one, removing the need to use protective felt pieces. The 19 well ceramic palette stays on my desk and is used for some paint testing, as it usually requires just a small blob
Interesting to look at colour palettes and characteristics of R&F drawing oils vs Kama. Curated by me of course, but still a good representation I think: 24 out of 40 R&F and 36 out of 66 Kama
After my latest video about oil sticks I started to think how to store them so they don’t stick to each other and don’t create much more additional mess. Butcher’s tray is great for putting some of them in it when painting, but it gets bad when all of them are in it and you need to find particular color.
So I bought mini stretch film for packing and covered them all. Big sticks are covered in two parts: one for holding and one for the tip to remove it and refresh after using.
I also noticed that old Sennelier sticks are way stickier than the new ones: whether it’s their age or formula I don’t know.
I don’t know if anyone can benefit from this knowledge, but this box that sells on Jackson’s now for 77 cents is absolutely perfect to store around 60 NeoArt pastels. Name is simply Plastic Storage Box in Clearance category
Made a linocut to print myself a bag (and a t-shirt too maybe). It’s about the fact that there cannot be a question about whether or not you should make bad art - bad art creates an artist, without lots of bad art one cannot get to the point of making good art. And while you’re working on your bad art you already are an artist. So that’s exactly how my imaginary merch would look like

Did you know that sometimes whining on the internet counts as a request to the universe? I feel complete ^_^
Thinking of doing more in-depth video about this color selection and color mixing
