[BEHIND THE SCENE: AMV『katharsis』]
Writing this as I'm working on v9.1 Beta content because the AMV attracted unwanted visitors not only here, but also in Bili. And they're proud about it.
The AMV purpose is to:
1. Thank HI3 Team for the wonderful P2 story and conclusion
2. Replay P2 accurately, in Dreamseeker's PoV, as Witness
3. Create a video that non-P2 enjoyers can enjoy in hopes of them to play P2 story

A. Prep and Actual Work
I spent 5 weeks and 80+ hours working on this project. Went beyond to study P2 lore with the lore peeps, read Carv's plot analysis in Reddit, and read Tokyo Ghoul manga again. This is why I don't make AMV so often btw. ; )

In my previous Helia AMV, someone gave feedback that it needed more action in the first half. I took note the feedback seriously, which creates another problem because DS has barely had fighting scenes.

While distributing her few action shots across an 4:20 AMV, I also had to:
1. Create eye-catching intro
2. Build and maintain tension
3. Follow a linear storyline involving all cast
4. Match the music down to individual frames with no scene longer than 3 seconds
5. Tune visual & audio, including transitions with & without additional editing

I added Coralie, Helia, and Vita fighting scenes as side dish. Specifically these 3 because they directly help DS creating possibilities for Luoxing. The rest of the tension is built through Leylah's indirect confrontations and DS' struggle to accept her past and power.

B. Lyrics & Characters Parallels
My favorite part of the lyrics is "All these torn seams, were a fate that I had chosen". This is the foundation of the AMV: DS has chosen the path of creating possibilities to "witness".

This part highlights the consequences of P2 Trio's past decisions:
1. Helia: refuses to stuck mourning Coralie and becoming Revenge Spirit
2. Coralie: answering Nana the exact answer Sena gave about Permanence, that life is to inherit to and inheriting from others.
3. DS: believing in multiple possibilities and becoming the bystander of her choices for Luoxing.

They met each other in a twist of fate and their life changed since. None of their decisions are easy, they braved through the unknowns. These are the answers to their predecessors: Sena and Leylah. They too didn't make decisions easily, and in the end both perished.

"Even if I'm captured by pursuing it endlessly" refers to what DS learnt from Sena & Leylah's fates, which correlate to "I've spent all this time destroying things. Could I have saved anything?" (destroying things = freeze time; saved anything = waiting for chance to restart time again)

"If I were to open my eyes and hear 'it was all true', please don't set off the siren of a tragedy" refers to Ken Kaneki's famous quote about his story being a tragedy, in which why I put Corelia scenes in the 2nd verse. They have more fighting scenes, the 2nd verse of a song tend to be the lowest in tension curve, and their arc was not only tragedy to themselves, but also to DS as their close friend. This way, I can keep everyone engaged and lining up with the narration at the same time.

C. Sacrifices
To depict the work as a continuous metamorphosis, I had to sacrifice few aspects:
1. Partition: unlike the Helia AMV, this one is formed as one unbroken journey.
2. Matching lyrics with scenes, but you can still see how I align some of these.
3. Aspect Ratios: I edited some transitions to minimize shifts among in-game walkthroughs, PVs, cutscenes, and gameplay.

D. Final Touch
Ultimately, while taking Helia AMV feedback seriously, reserving P2 Finale fighting scenes for the end was the only decision that makes sense, narratively speaking. Whether the AMV captures your eyes from start to finish while delivering the proper message is up for discussion in the comments!

Regardless, it proves that passion and hard work could exceed natural talents, and that passionate works can be felt and enjoyed by viewers (I guess haters too so they decide to jump in... their way), so I thank everyone for watching and supporting the AMV!

P.S. let me know how do you feel about the last 20 seconds of the AMV. That's quite a choreography that I present to those watching till the end, just like how writing team presents the peak when players stick to the end of P2~
