Highlights come thick and fast: a full day at Himeji Castle, a fortress that has stood since 1609 and has never been destroyed by war, fire or earthquake, an exclusive private Geisha (Maiko) tea ceremony and performance rooted in centuries-old Kyoto tradition, and a walk beneath the thousands of vermillion gates at Fushimi Inari Taisha, founded in 711 AD. Add the gold-leafed Kinkaku-ji, once a shogun’s retirement villa, and the ancient capital of Nara, home to some of the oldest wooden buildings on Earth, and the itinerary reads like a history lesson brought vividly to life.

From May 10th to 18th, 2027, we’ll go on a magnificent 9 day tour through Osaka, Kyoto and Nara. We’ll marvel at Himeji Castle, Japan’s most spectacular feudal castle. Be inspired by Kyoto’s Iconic Temples & Zen Gardens; try on kimonos for a traditional Geisha performance and tea ceremony; visit the ancient capital of Nara and meets its famous free-roaming deer; and so much more! Plus there is an optional 4 day extension to Mt. Fuji, which includes a visit to a traditional thatched roof village and a relaxing stay and a hot springs Onsen resort, ending in the big city of Tokyo!
In between expert guided tours, we’ll indulge in delightful culinary experiences, wander atmospheric markets streets, and soak up the culture! Rukidi IV of Tooro, better known as King Oyo has died at the age of 34.

Both the world's oldest (Harald V of Norway) and youngest reigning monarchs died on the same day, August 28th, 2026.

Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV became King of Tooro, a traditional kingdom in western Uganda, in 1995 at the age of 3 after the death of his father. The Young King's cause of death had not been disclosed, but a Ugandan minister said Oyo had been critically ill and was seeking treatment in the US.

As King Oyo's death was completely unexpected, I do not have a tribute video prepared for him, as I did for King Harald. However, my heart goes out to his family and the people of Tooro during this sad time.
