Today the Australian state of Victoria has three new national parks the first in 15 years hell yeah ๐ค๐ผ ๐
Wombat-Lerderderg National Park protects more than 44,000 hectares of bushland, rivers and gullies between Daylesford and Bacchus Marsh. Bringing together the rugged former Lerderderg State Park and large areas of the former Wombat State Forest, it offers a diverse landscape of bushland, waterways, heritage places and recreation areas
For thousands of years, these forests, rivers and ridgelines have formed part of the cultural landscapes of Traditional Owners. The park includes places of ongoing cultural significance and remains an important cultural landscape today, reflecting enduring connections between people, Country and waterways.
Pyrenees National Park will include the Landsborough and Landsborough Hill Nature Conservation Reserves and parts of the St Arnaud-Pyrenees State Forest
Mount Buangor National Park protects approximately 5,300 hectares of forest, mountain landscapes and recreation areas. The park combines the former Mount Buangor State Park with adjoining areas of the former Mount Cole State Forest, creating a larger protected landscape of forests, gullies, creeks and ridgelines.
For thousands of years this landscape has formed part of the traditional Country of the Eastern Maar Peoples. Today, the park continues to protect important natural and cultural values while providing opportunities for people to experience and connect with Country.
These parks are located on the lands of the Dja Dja Wurrung, Eastern Maar, Wadawurrung, Wurundjeri, Gunaikurnai and Taungurung peoples, who have cared for these landscapes for thousands of years and will continue to play an important role in their management.
These parks are home to phascogales, powerful owls, montane rock-skink and many vulnerable species so it is a much-needed win for these animals and traditional owners
