**The Ship That Vanished Without a Trace**

On **March 4, 1918**, the USS *Cyclops* left Barbados and began sailing toward Baltimore.

On board were **306 people**—250 crew members and 56 passengers.

The ship was also carrying a huge cargo of manganese ore.

Then something strange happened.

After the war, Hall received the **Distinguished Service Cross**, becoming the only civilian woman to receive that U.S. decoration during World War II.

She later joined the CIA and remained in intelligence work for many years.
