**Arthur:** *(cheering, putting his hands up in the air)* "IT'S THE END! WE SAVED ZUSSMAN! He took the shot and dropped Metz right before he could pull the trigger! That was SO close!" **Buster:** "Dude, when Daniels heard his brother Paul's voice in his head saying *'Red, take the shot!'* and he didn't freeze like he did with the wolf... he actually saved Zussman! That was an amazing ending!" **Muffy:** *(wiping away a tiny tear)* "Oh, my heart... when Pierson helped drag Zussman out of the woods and said *'Gentle, gentle, gentle'*... Pierson really cared about his boys all along. And then Stiles took that picture so the whole world would know what happened." **Brain:** "That mission was set at the Berga concentration camp, which was a subcamp of Buchenwald. Tragically, American POWs—especially Jewish-American soldiers like Zussman—were forced into hard labor there under horrifying conditions. The game's ending honors the real-life 89th and 90th Infantry Divisions who liberated those camps in April 1945." **Francine:** "And Paul's gravestone! Paul didn't die in the war—he died back in 1938 after saving Red from that wolf attack! Red carried that guilt with him for years, thinking he let his brother down, but leaving his Bronze Star on Paul's grave was the ultimate tribute." **DW:** *(smiling warmly at the TV)* "I'm glad Daniels made it back to Texas to hug Hazel and his baby. And Zussman is going to be okay!" **Arthur:** "Yeah, DW. They fought all the way from the beaches of D-Day through Normandy, Paris, Aachen, the Hürtgen Forest, and the Rhine... but they made it through together. *To the end.*"
**Arthur:** *(laughing)* "Did you see that?! Pierson literally punched Daniels right in the mouth, but then when Daniels dodged the second punch, Pierson punched a giant wooden tent pole instead and hurt his own hand!" **Buster:** "Dude, Pierson went full rage mode! But when Daniels took out his discharge papers—his ticket back home to Hazel and his new baby—and **tore them into pieces right in front of him**... Pierson was completely speechlessly stunned!" **Muffy:** "I know! Daniels stood right there and yelled, *'Turner would have never given up like this!'* That was such an incredible moment! He gave up a safe life in Texas just to go across the Rhine and find Zussman!" **Brain:** "That mission was a dramatic representation of the actual Battle of Remagen in March 1945. The Ludendorff Bridge was the last surviving bridge across the Rhine River. The Germans attempted to blow it up as the US 9th Armored and 1st Infantry Division rushed it, but the demolition charges failed to destroy the main span. Capturing it allowed the Allies to establish a crucial bridgehead directly into the German heartland." **Francine:** "And how cool was it when Aiello walked up to Howard at the end, shook his hand, and admitted he was wrong?! Even Pierson told Daniels, *'I guess you know what to do with Davis's orders,'* basically giving him the green light to go search those POW camps!" **DW:** *(clapping her hands)* "So they crossed the big river and took the bridge! Now they can go find Zussman!" **Arthur:** "That's right, DW! The final chapter is the **Epilogue**. We're going inside Germany to search the POW camps and bring Zussman home!"
**Arthur:** *(slamming his hands down on his knees, standing up)* "WAIT! Zussman got kidnapped?! We have to go save him! We can't just leave him on a train with those SS guys!" **Buster:** "Dude, Pierson literally kicked Daniels out of the platoon for going after him, and now Daniels is sitting in a hospital tent with an honorable discharge ticket straight back home to Texas!" **Muffy:** "Oh, come on! He has a pregnant wife and a Bronze Star waiting for him in Texas! Any normal person would take the boat home! But... I know Daniels isn't going to leave his best friend behind." **Brain:** "Did you hear what Colonel Davis said about Pierson? Everything we thought about Kasserine Pass was completely wrong! Pierson wasn't a heartless coward who let his men die—he was ordered to retreat, but he refused to leave his trapped squad behind and ended up losing almost everyone trying to save them. That’s why he’s so obsessive about following orders now." **Francine:** "That changes *everything* about Pierson! He’s so traumatized by losing his men at Kasserine that he built a giant wall around himself. But that SS officer Metz throwing Zussman onto a POW train... that was terrifying. Zussman stood up to him in full German and took a pistol whip to the face just to protect the other guys!" **DW:** *(staring at the screen, wide awake)* "Arthur, is Daniels really going home without his friend? He was looking at that little necklace on his bed..." **Arthur:** *(grabbing the controller firmly)* "No way, DW. You heard what Zussman and Daniels promised each other back in Normandy: *'To the end.'* He's tearing up those discharge papers and going back to the front line! We're taking that last bridge across the Rhine!"
**DW:** *(gasping, clutching her hands to her chest)* "They did it! They actually did it without Turner!" **Arthur:** *(sighing with relief, letting go of the controller)* "Yeah... but man, Pierson is completely out of his mind! Did you see how close he called in that airstrike?! It was practically right on top of their own foxholes!" **Buster:** "Right?! He literally snatched the radio from Daniels and yelled the coordinates for a bomb drop *inside* their safety line! I thought for sure they were all going to get blown up!" **Muffy:** "Honestly, Pierson is getting more and more dangerous! He's staggering around drunk on Christmas Eve, kicking snow into the fire, and refusing to give the boys extra coats or blankets! It's freezing out there!" **Brain:** "The Battle of the Bulge, launched on December 16, 1944, was Germany's last major offensive campaign on the Western Front. The Ardennes Forest suffered through one of the coldest winters on record, with sub-zero temperatures and heavy fog that initially grounded Allied aircraft. When the weather finally cleared around Christmas—just like in the game—P-47 Thunderbolts were able to fly in and provide critical close air support to halt the German armored spearhead." **Francine:** "Howard was awesome, though! He fixed that radio while Krauts were rushing the building, and then Aiello finally had to admit he was glad Howard was there!" **Arthur:** "Yeah, but look at what Aiello said at the very end when Pierson walked away... *'I've seen that look before. It was right before Kasserine. We're on our own, boys.'*" **Buster:** "Oof. That means whatever happened in Kasserine Pass when Pierson's whole unit got wiped out... it's about to happen again." **Arthur:** "Alright, next mission is **Ambush**. We're setting a trap for a German convoy to get thermite and air support coordinates... let's see if we can keep everyone alive under Pierson's command!"
**Arthur:** *(dropping his controller onto his lap, completely stunned)* "No way... No way! Turner didn't make it?! After everything they went through?!" **DW:** *(standing up right next to the TV screen, tearing up and pointing at the monitor)* "HE DIED?! No! How could Turner die like this?! He was the nice one! He was trying to protect everyone!" **Buster:** *(staring at the screen with wide eyes, forgetting his popcorn)* "Man... that was brutal. He stayed behind all by himself with just a submachine gun so the rest of the squad could escape... He sacrificed himself..." **Muffy:** "This is horrible! Turner was the only one holding that platoon together! He kept Pierson in check and looked out for the boys! And now... Pierson is in charge?!" **Francine:** "Look at Pierson's face, though. He handed Turner his gun and said *'It was an honor.'* You could tell even Pierson respected him, but then he immediately turned around and made Daniels his second-in-command! *'We're in a whole new world, Daniels. My world.'* That was terrifying!" **Brain:** "Lieutenant Turner's sacrifice embodies the First Infantry Division's motto that Colonel Davis mentioned earlier: *'No mission too difficult, no sacrifice too great, duty first.'* The Battle of Hill 493 was historically notorious for severe casualties as the US forces fought uphill against entrenched heavy artillery. Tragically, many commanders had to make the ultimate sacrifice to ensure their men could break through." **Arthur:** *(picking the controller back up, taking a deep breath)* "I can't believe Turner's gone... But Pierson's running the show now, and we can't let Turner's sacrifice be for nothing. We have to keep pushing forward." **DW:** *(sniffling, crossing her arms)* "Arthur... you better win this war for Turner." **Arthur:** "We will, DW. We will. Next mission is **Battle of the Bulge**... winter is coming, and it's going to be a tough fight."
**Arthur:** *(raising a fist in the air)* "YEAH! Retreat, Krauts! Run back into the woods! You can't beat First Platoon!" **DW:** *(cheering right along with him, pointing at the TV)* "Yeah, go away, Krauts! Leave Daniels and his friends alone!" **Buster:** *(laughing)* "Whoa, DW is getting into it now! But man, that Hurtgen Forest is terrifying! Trees exploding everywhere, smoke blanketing the ground, and those wood shrapnel splinters... that looked brutal!" **Muffy:** "And what was with those artillery flares?! Daniels got completely blinded, tumbled down a hill, and was so hurt he was literally hallucinating his brother Paul! I thought he was going to give up right there!" **Brain:** "Paul's appearance in Daniels' memory was a classic psychological coping mechanism triggered by high battlefield stress and trauma. But historically, the Battle of Hürtgen Forest was an absolute nightmare for the U.S. Army. It was the longest single battle the U.S. Army ever fought, lasting from September 1944 to February 1945. The dense pine trees caused artillery shells to detonate high in the treetops, creating a lethal shower of heavy wood splinters and shrapnel." **Francine:** "No wonder they call it the 'Death Factory'! But can we talk about Hazel's letter for a second?! Daniels is gonna be a dad! He was so scared to open that letter thinking it was a 'Dear John' breakup note, and it turned out she's pregnant!" **Buster:** "Right?! That was huge! But now Stiles is dropping hints about Kasserine Pass again. He thinks Pierson went off on his own without waiting at the lumber mill, and that he's gonna get his whole team wiped out!" **Arthur:** *(picking up the controller)* "Stiles is right—Pierson isn't waiting for anyone! Look at the next level, guys—it's called **Hill 493**. We have to climb that giant hill and destroy those artillery guns once and for all!"
**Arthur:** *(setting the controller down for a second, looking back at DW)* "See, DW? War games aren't just about shooting and explosions! Daniels went back into that collapsing, dark basement all by himself—with no weapons in his hands—just to save that little girl, Anna!" **DW:** *(staring intently at the screen, her voice surprisingly quiet)* "I've never seen a soldier save a little girl before... He gave her doll back to her and everything. But... why didn't the other soldier with the mustache want to help her?" **Buster:** "Because Pierson is a jerk, DW! He was literally screaming, *'That's where she's stayin'!'* But Daniels didn't care—he just ran right past him to find her!" **Muffy:** "It was so tense! Every time Daniels was sneaking through the dark hallway carrying Anna, and that German officer almost looked right at them—I couldn't even breathe! But then... at the very end... Anna's sister..." *(sighs)* "That was so sad." **Francine:** "That part made me SO mad! They fought through the entire city of Aachen, blew up walls, drove a tank through a Tiger, and saved all those civilians—just for two German soldiers to shoot the truck at the last second. Poor Anna..." **Brain:** "Historically, the Battle of Aachen in October 1944 was the first major battle fought on German soil. It involved brutal, room-to-room urban combat where over 10,000 civilians were trapped in the crossfire. The tragedy at the end of the mission is unfortunately a very accurate depiction of how devastating urban warfare was for non-combatants." **Arthur:** "Yeah... Turner and Pierson are totally at each other's throats now, too. Turner wanted to save everyone, and Pierson just wanted to stick to the mission. You could tell Turner was heartbroken when that truck drove off." **Buster:** "And Perez's tank crew! Fighting those two Panzers and that giant Tiger tank in the streets was intense! When Rabson's tank got destroyed, I thought Perez was a goner too!" **Arthur:** "Alright guys... the next mission is called **Death Factory**. We're heading into the Hurtgen Forest. Grab your snacks—it looks like things are going to get even tougher."
**Arthur:** *(throwing his hands up in frustration)* "Wait, why are they speaking German all of a sudden?! I can't read the subtitles that fast!" **Buster:** "Arthur, you're literally undercover in a secret Nazi HQ! If Rousseau walked up to a Gestapo officer and said *'Hello good sir, where are the explosives?'* in plain English, they'd throw her in jail immediately!" **Muffy:** "Well, it's extremely inconvenient! I was trying to follow the story and suddenly Rousseau is getting interrogated about poems, Hamburg, and travel documents in full German! My nerves cannot handle this! One wrong button press and you get arrested!" **Brain:** "Actually, Arthur, during the WWII occupation of Paris, the Gestapo headquarters at the Hôtel Lutetia and surrounding garrisons were run entirely by German SS officers. To pass as 'Gerda Schneider,' Rousseau *had* to speak fluent German, know her cover identity's hometown, and remember her fake supervisor's name—otherwise, her cover would blow instantly." **Francine:** "Brain, we know *why* she had to do it, but that scene in Heinrich's office was insane! He went from talking about eating tiny birds in cognac to bragging about her son, and then he just lunged at her!" **DW:** *(standing in front of the TV with her arms crossed)* "Arthur, why did that lady stab that mean officer with a piece of a juice glass? And why did she take his wallet to wipe her hands?!" **Arthur:** "DW, it was a broken wine glass, he was the bad guy who hurt her family, and move out of the way! Look at the screen—Daniels just picked up a Panzerschreck rocket launcher and blew up a halftrack! Paris is freed!" **Buster:** "Look at the fireworks over the Eiffel Tower! We actually liberated Paris! That was awesome!" **Muffy:** "Finally, something civilized! Though I agree with Pierson for once... the war isn't over yet, and we still have to go through the rest of Europe."
**Arthur:** *(laughing, pointing at the TV screen)* "DW, it's called *S.O.E.*! The whole point of the mission was to stop that massive German train carrying V2 rockets before it could reach Paris!" **DW:** *(crossing her arms and looking annoyed)* "Well, why did you have to drive a tiny car *under* the train? And why did you break the whole train into a million pieces?! You made a giant mess in the woods, Arthur!" **Buster:** "A giant mess?! DW, that was the most awesome car chase EVER! Arthur was literally leaning out of a speeding jeep, throwing grenades BACK at the train, and then they jumped out right before the jeep got crushed under the wheels! It was totally like a movie!" **Muffy:** "Buster, please. They completely destroyed the train when they were just supposed to *stop* it! That French lady, Rousseau, looked ready to slap both of them! And Pierson was right for once—now every single German soldier in France knows where they are!" **Francine:** "Hey, a crash is a crash, Muffy! As long as Daniels and Zussman survived it, it's a win! Plus, Rousseau looks tough as nails. Did you see how fast she took out that soldier who was aiming at them?" **Brain:** "Rousseau represents the *Maquis*—rural guerrilla bands of the French Resistance. Historically, the SOE, or Special Operations Executive, worked closely with these Resistance fighters to conduct sabotage missions, like derailing supply lines and gathering intelligence, right before the Allied liberation of Paris in August 1944." **Arthur:** *(setting the controller down for a second)* "All I know is, driving that jeep on those dirt tracks while dodging falling trees was intense. But look at the end of the script—Rousseau said she needs us for a mission *in* Paris next!" **DW:** "If you go to Paris, Arthur, you'd better not crash any trains into the Eiffel Tower!"

**Francine:** "Hey, a crash is a crash, Muffy! As long as Daniels and Zussman survived it, it's a win! Plus, Rousseau looks tough as nails. Did you see how fast she took out that soldier who was aiming at them?"
**Brain:** "Rousseau represents the *Maquis*—rural guerrilla bands of the French Resistance. Historically, the SOE, or Special Operations Executive, worked closely with these Resistance fighters to conduct sabotage missions, like derailing supply lines and gathering intelligence, right before the Allied liberation of Paris in August 1944."
**Arthur:** *(setting the controller down for a second)* "All I know is, driving that jeep on those dirt tracks while dodging falling trees was intense. But look at the end of the script—Rousseau said she needs us for a mission *in* Paris next!"
**DW:** "If you go to Paris, Arthur, you'd better not crash any trains into the Eiffel Tower!"
