Who you marry affects:
your peace
your future
your family
your calling
your spiritual life
Some relationships accelerate purpose. Others slowly destroy it. Samson ignored wisdom and lost strength. Solomon ignored wisdom and lost focus. Never choose chemistry over discernment.
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” — Proverbs 4:23
The goal is not simply to “get married.” The goal is to build:
a godly legacy
a peaceful home
a spiritually healthy family
You do not need to settle for toxicity, manipulation, or chronic confusion in the name of love.
Don’t rush! Instead pray deeply, grow, discern wisely, and love intentionally.
“Love is patient, love is kind…” — Corinthians 13:4
A godly marriage should help both people move closer to God and His will—not further away. Healthy relationships reflect God’s heart of truth with grace, love with honor, correction with gentleness, commitment with peace and let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works.” — Epistle to the Hebrews 10:24

Standards Must Be Biblical, Not Fantasy
Having standards is not arrogance, it is wise.
Healthy standards protect you from manipulation, dishonor, abuse and compromise.
But unrealistic perfectionism can also sabotage relationships. Healthy marriages are built by two imperfect people committed to growth under God. No man or woman will be flawless.
Instead, look for:
Faithfulness
Humility
Wisdom
Willingness to grow
“Love covers a multitude of sins.” — Peter 4:8
Standards should reflect reality and godly character—not fantasy perfection. Seek growth—not flawless performance.

𝐄𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬.
A beautiful relationship can still become destructive without emotional maturity.
“A fool gives full vent to his spirit, but a wise man quietly holds it back.” — Proverbs 29:11
𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐨:
Communicates respectfully
Takes accountability
Can apologize and grow
Manages emotions responsibly
Listens with empathy
Resolves conflict without manipulation or cruelty
Emotional intelligence 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬 from unnecessary destruction.
Peace Is a Kingdom Standard
“Blessed are the peacemakers…” — Matthew 5:9
God never intended relationships to become environments of constant turmoil.
A godly relationship should not constantly drain your:
Mental health
Identity
Confidence
Spiritual peace
Healthy relationships are not built on constant conflict, pride, or harsh words. They are built on 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐝𝐨𝐦, 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐞. Thus, scripture repeatedly warns about constant strife in a home and guides us how to avoid this.
“What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you?” — James 4:1
“A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” — Proverbs 15:1
“…the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.” — 1 Peter 3:4
Not every disagreement needs to become a battle.

𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡
𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩: “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her.” — Epistle to the Ephesians 5:25
Men are not called merely to “have a wife.”
They are called to lead with sacrifice, maturity, consistency and love
𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩: Become the Man/Woman You Are Seeking
A healthy marriage is not built only on finding the right person. It is also built on becoming the right person.
𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧: before looking for an Eph 5:25 man, become a woman who is respectful and able to submit to the authority of a godly man.
𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐞𝐧: Before looking for a Proverbs 31 woman, become a man of integrity yourself.
“He who walks with integrity walks securely…” — Proverbs 10:9
Don’t Marry Potential Alone
Many people enter relationships hoping:
“They’ll change later.”
“Marriage will fix this.”
“Love will heal everything.”
𝐃𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐥𝐚𝐠𝐬 because of chemistry or emotional attachment. Date reality, not imagination. Wisdom evaluates fruit and patterns, not promises and fantasy.

𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐲 𝐅𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐬, 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬
“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” — 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐬 𝟑𝟏:𝟑𝟎
This principle applies to both women and men:
Externals may attract you, but 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 over time and life’s challenges.
Look for a partner who:
Honors God
Treats people well
Handles conflict maturely
Is honest and teachable
When choosing a husband or wife, ask, how do they handle adversity, do they respect God and others, are they willing to communicate maturely?
External attractiveness may open the door but inner character determines what lives inside the house.
