Summer is far from over, so I'm finally excited to share these California vibes with you.

This episode is dedicated to one of my absolute favorite bands: Tuxedo, the band of Mayer Hawthorne and Jake One. As a huge FUNK fan, I fell in love with their sound the very first time I heard it. Since then, I've collected everything I could get my hands on.

What makes Tuxedo even more special to me is how often they've collaborated with artists I admire. Over the years, they've worked with incredible musicians such as Snoop Dogg, CeeLo Green, MF DOOM, Tony! Toni! Toné!, Zapp, DāM-FunK, and Benny Sings.

I hope this set brings you as much joy as it brought me while putting it together. Whether you're listening at home, on the road, or enjoying the last warm days of summer at the beach or park, I hope these grooves put a smile on your face.

Today I'm celebrating a milestone I honestly never expected when I uploaded my "SADE - classic cuts" set.

Like with almost every video I release, I was fighting a serious case of imposter syndrome before hitting the publish button. But with this one, the doubts were even stronger.

Over the last year I had established my "deep cuts" format, and I worried that playing well-known SADE songs might lead to comments saying I was becoming too commercial, running out of ideas, or simply taking the easy route. The truth is that I still have plenty of ideas for future deep cuts sets. But I also wanted to create something built around the music that made me fall in love with SADE in the first place.

What many people don't know is that this set took me about a month to finish: I spent weeks deciding which songs belonged in the set, in what order they should appear, and what story I wanted the journey to tell.

When I finally uploaded it, I remember thinking that reaching 100,000 views would already be an incredible success.

Instead, the set has now passed 1 million views.

And what makes this milestone especially meaningful to me is that success on YouTube is never guaranteed. Many creators have explored SADE's music before, including channels much larger than mine, with very different results. That's why this achievement feels so special.

This is now the fourth set on my channel to cross the one-million-view mark, something I never imagined when I started sharing my mixes online.

Most of all, this milestone reminds me that trusting your own creative instincts is often worth the risk.

After finishing the last Janet Jackson set, I felt inspired to revisit some of Prince’s songs that deal deeply with sensuality, desire, and flirtation. At the same time, I’ve been really looking forward to summer this year and wanted to record something uplifting, funky, and full of energy.

So I decided to combine both worlds into one set.

In this episode, I’m taking you on a journey filled with high energy, deep grooves, and smooth landings. While putting the set together, I realized that giving you nonstop funk bangers from beginning to end might simply be too overwhelming. So throughout the mix, I added slower and more sensual tracks that still carry plenty of funk and don’t lose any of their power.

Especially the second-to-last track surprised me. It’s a song I honestly hadn’t listened to that often before, but hearing it placed between two funk-heavy tracks suddenly gave it a completely new meaning for me. Now it shines in a totally different light in my ears.

And if you don’t get up and dance at least once during this set, then please let the Funk Doctor examine you immediately.

Today, May 16, 2026, Janet Jackson celebrates her 60th trip around the sun. I wanted to dedicate this set to her birthday, but also to all of you, because Janet Jackson was by far the most requested artist for a deep cuts episode.

As a teenager in the ’90s, Janet Jackson was impossible to escape. She was everywhere, not only on MTV, but also deeply connected to club culture and nightlife at the time. But to be honest, after the early 2000s, I stopped following her music closely.

For this set, I decided to dive deep into her entire catalog. I listened to everything I could find, from the early ’80s all the way to her more recent albums and songs. During that process, I came up with several ideas for the direction of this episode. For example, I noticed that there are many Janet Jackson songs featuring the sound of rain in the background, and one idea was to build an entire set around that atmosphere and connect all those tracks together. But in the end, that concept didn’t feel powerful enough.

What truly surprised me instead was realizing just how often, and how openly, Janet Jackson sings about making love. Now that I’m older and my English has improved, I can fully appreciate how direct, confident, playful, and celebratory she is about intimacy and desire in her music.

There were ultimately so many songs centered around this theme that I decided to build the entire set around it. It starts relatively smooth and innocent, but by the end, things get very wild.

One more thing that makes Janet Jackson’s music resonate with me on such a deep level is the production. So much of her classic work was produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, who came from the band The Time, originally created by Prince. Together with Prince, they helped shape and evolve what became known as the Minneapolis Sound.

If you especially love the sound of Janet Jackson’s ’80s and early ’90s material, I highly recommend exploring Prince’s protégés from that era, as well as other productions by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. There’s an entire musical universe connected to that sound.

For this episode, I’m joined by my friend Özlem, and from the very first moment we met in person, I knew this session would carry a different kind of energy. Not only because of her great taste in music, but because of who she is as a person.

Özlem is a teacher by day, but that’s only one part of her story. She is also a DJ, an activist, and a highly creative soul. If you’re not already following her, make sure to check out her Instagram. Her photography and visual style are just as unique as her music selection.

Musically, we connect on many levels. We share a deep love for similar artists and sounds, and you can really feel that throughout this set.

We called this session “Woman's World” because Özlem is deeply committed to supporting people with migrant backgrounds in Germany, and especially to advocating for women’s rights. Releasing this on Mother’s Day felt like the perfect moment.

What makes her stand out to me is that her actions truly match her words. Over the past years, I’ve met people who present themselves very strongly through a moral or activist lens, but where there can sometimes be a gap between what is said publicly and how things are actually lived in everyday life. With Özlem, I don’t feel that disconnect. There is a strong sense of consistency and honesty in how she moves through the world, and that is something I deeply respect.

After a short exchange with Özlem, we quickly landed on one of our favorite dishes: Manti. So I decided to cook Manti pasta for us during the episode, and it turned out to be the perfect choice. We really enjoyed it.

Before we even started recording, we spent over an hour just talking, laughing, and simply enjoying the moment. That energy really set the tone for everything that followed, and I hope you can feel it throughout this session.

On April 21, 2016, I came home after a long and exhausting day at work. I had dinner with my family and then collapsed onto the couch. When I opened my laptop, the first thing I saw on Facebook was a post from a friend. It was a long paragraph filled with “Nooooo…” and it ended with the words: Not Prince!

I still remember that moment vividly. A deep, unsettling feeling hit me instantly. I turned on an American news channel, and it was already breaking news. The man who had been giving me at least one album every year since I was twelve, the artist who shaped the soundtrack of my life, had apparently passed away.

For about an hour, the news wasn’t officially confirmed, and there was still a small sense of hope. But once it was confirmed, my world collapsed. I withdrew to my bedroom and spent three days grieving.

Where were you when you heard the news?

In this set, you’ll hear tracks mainly from the album Art Official Age. The album carries an underlying theme that reflects on life and what may come after. Alongside that, you’ll hear the beautiful presence of Lianne La Havas, whose voice and expression feel like the perfect complement.

I’ve often wondered what Prince was trying to tell us with this album. Of course, I have my own interpretation, but I’d really love to hear yours.

I remember talking to a friend about these tracks shortly after Prince’s passing. His view was that it wasn’t anything unusual, since Prince often explored conceptual themes across entire albums, like he did on The Gold Experience or The Rainbow Children. And while that may be true, whenever I listen to the songs in this set, I can’t shake the feeling that there was something more, as if Prince sensed something and wanted to leave us with a message.

To me, these tracks carry a sense of hope. The idea that death might not be the end, but rather another step in a greater journey.

I’m really happy to finally share this set with you. Deniz not only has outstanding taste in music, but his DJ skills are truly top-notch. I’m grateful not just for all the new music he brings into my life, but also for the inspiration I get every time I hear him play.

After a short conversation and some preparation for this set, we quickly landed on the theme of New Jack Swing. It felt like the perfect choice, since we both share a deep love for all the artists featured in this mix.

The biggest challenge while producing this set was actually staying focused in the kitchen. The groove was so infectious that I constantly felt like dropping everything and just dancing: I just had to make sure I didn’t cut myself while cooking.

It was an absolute pleasure, and I feel very lucky to have Deniz as a friend. He’s an incredibly kind and supportive person within the Hamburg DJ community, someone who not only creates new formats such as no.algordm and inspires people, but is always there to support others as well.

I’m also a big fan of the Hayat.Sounds party series, which he co-founded with Shari Who and Sir Mansalot. It quickly gained popularity right from the very first event. If you’re ever planning a trip to Hamburg, you should definitely check if there’s a Hayat.Sounds party happening while you’re in town.

For this set, we decided to go with poké. I started making poké myself a few years ago, after spending time in Hawaii and experiencing what real poké actually tastes like and not the versions you often find in so-called poké shops here, where the fish content is maybe 20% and the rest is just vegetables. Nothing against vegetables, but authentic Hawaiian poké is all about fresh fish!

Hi everyone,
I know it’s been a bit quieter since my last SADE video in January. That’s because I started a new job this year, which has been keeping me busy, but I’ve also been using my free time to work on the next episodes.

Right now I’m listening to a bunch of different artists and bands at once, so it’s taking a little longer to get a new episode out.

If all goes well, I’ll record three new episodes in March: one "deep cuts" episode and two with guests in the kitchen while they DJ and I cook. I already have at least one episode planned for April too.
