So the short I wanted to make is getting a little long. I wanted to talk about iron lung a little more now that I have clips and subtitles. (My first video's cute but lore master I am not. Seek out the pros for that) It turns out I do like this movie a lot and it gave me more thoughts. Yay

There's a detail I think is cool but...eeeee...it got way longer than 10 minutes very fast. I should take some time to sit with it. Probz a next week kind of thing. So...coming soon

MAJOR CORRECTION: Grace gets the same choice in the book. I misremembered the end and didn't think to check (my hubris). Blah. From my memory, I had thought they had developed the tech was when he was 71 and going back was superfluous. (He is 71, but relativity makes him in his 50s) Hail Mary was always in orbit waiting to go but they waited to see if Earth would pull off saving themselves (I did not remember that paragraph). The question and direct convo comes that time gap later and he does ask to think, I remembered him going "I'm so old now" (Guy's got a cane and such) and he's weighing it against leaving his life on Erid that he's comfortable in. Egg on my face.

TLDR: I had the impression the choice to go back was much later in the book and more of a "would you like to die on your planet" kind of thing. It was not.

Does this change my grievances with the film?

Yeah of course. The presentation is what I think did it for me. The gen point for me was that he had lived a majority of his life on Erid and so his "one way trip" was actually a new life start. The movie felt earlier in the timeline than what I imagined since they're JUST figuring out his environment. I think the implication that Grace could go back to the people he knew in the film is what caught me up. Realistically, the timeline's the same timeline but without even the cane it still felt to me like it was offered too soon.

Will I cut that out of this vid?

IDK? It's an inaccurate grievance now. Part of me wants me to let me embarrass myself for posterity. The other part wants to edit it out but doesn't know if I'll be able to make clean cuts...

Options...anyway, big whoops. Big embarrassment. If anyone repeats to you my little irritation here, I'm sorry in advance.
