A mere 10 miles and southern Guam gets full 150mph+ winds. 20 miles and the tourist heart of the island gets the core of a super typhoon Champi. That’s how close it was from a life changing storm to a normal week at work with a few power outages. Incredible how small and tight this storm was as it passed by. Reminded me of Hurricane Charley and its small eye.

I know many who have watched my most recent video believe that Typhoon Champi is going to be manageable. The recent discussion by NWS Guam shows more in line to why I flew here from Florida. This typhoon absolutely has the potential to be a generational storm for Guam.

By making the turn earlier than forecasters expected for much of the week, the catastrophic rain from Hurricane Nolo mostly stayed south of the Big Island. Another 40 or so miles and it could have been a different scenario. The hurricane was slow and the amount of rain easily could have reached well into the “feet” of rain. We dodged one this time. I caught this incredible double rainbow on my drive over to Kona.

Took the first flight after Hurricane Lowell trended east towards Kauai. But this morning while in the air, my flight from Phoenix was canceled so no hurricane for me. I will be covering waves and flooding in LA instead.
I don’t believe Lowell will make landfall but as we saw with LaLa, landfall doesn’t matter too much.
