They say legends aren’t born, they’re created - and in the case of Kevin Keegan no statement could be more true.

King Kev was not only one of the most influential figures in the history of our football club, but also an inspiration to generations of our supporters - many of which choosing the black and white stripes thanks to his incredible legacy.

Transforming the clubs fortunes as a player, rescuing those same fortunes as a manager, assembling the world-renowned ‘Entertainers’ that will forever be engrained in Premier League history, and even standing up against the frustrations of Mike Ashley - Keegan epitomised each and every single supporter on Tyneside through his honesty, emotion and hard-work.

Dads, grandads, uncles and aunties will all have their own specific special memory; that debut goal against QPR, dramatic helicopter goodbyes and of course, that famous rant live on Sky Sports that summed up a passion so iconic with football support in the North-East. Too many to choose from, and no better past-time than reminiscing.

He once famously told us to ‘‘never give up on your club, keep supporting it - one day you will get it back and it will be everything you wanted it to be’’. Well Kev, you were right we got it back - but without you this club wouldn’t be half of what it is today, and for that we’ll be forever grateful.

Sadly one of Keegan’s final wishes was to ‘‘say goodbye to Newcastle fans properly’’, and that now won’t be fulfilled. But we can speak for every single Newcastle supporter around the globe when we say it’ll never, ever be goodbye - because his name and legacy will be talked about on Tyneside for generations to come.

You see it’s not goodbye - it’s thank you, for everything.

Rest easy King Kev. Thoughts and prayers go out to all of his family and loved ones 🖤🤍
