I am a Certified Public Accountant, an Army Veteran and a FORMER financial advisor. My goal in life is to DESTROY the financial advisor industry and spread good personal finances to the world. The whole edifice of modern money management is ripe with corruption that destroys the wealth of the middle class and siphons it to the finance/banker class. IT MUST END.

I discuss everything you could possibly want to know about personal finance on this channel. Stocks, bonds, options, FOREX, mutual funds, budgeting, insurance, savings and more. I also walk the walk; I've accumulated a mid-six figure net worth after only 8 years of working by implementing sound personal finance principles. It truly is achievable for anyone to find financial independence, if they know what to do.

Three months left in 2026. Is your paycheck withholding the right amount?

Federal income tax is generally paid throughout the year as you earn it. The IRS recommends checking your withholding after a major life or income change: starting or leaving a job, working multiple jobs, marriage, divorce, the birth or adoption of a child, or a significant change in income.

The free IRS Tax Withholding Estimator takes about 25 minutes. Have your recent pay stubs (and your spouse's, if filing jointly) and your most recent federal return handy. It doesn't ask for your name, Social Security number or bank details, and your answers aren't saved or shared with the IRS.

Your results can generate a pre-filled Form W-4 (or W-4P for a pension). Give it to your employer or pension provider, not the IRS.

Paying contractors this year? The 1099 threshold just went up.

For payments made in 2026, the IRS minimum for filing Form 1099-NEC increased to $2,000. If your business paid a non-employee $2,000 or more for services this year, you generally need to file a 1099-NEC and send them a copy.

Some things didn't change. Form 1099-NEC is still due to the IRS and to your contractor by January 31. Attorneys' fees are still reportable, even when the law firm is a corporation. Personal, non-business payments still aren't reportable.

The easiest time to get ready is now. Get a Form W-9 from each contractor so you have their correct taxpayer ID on file before year-end, instead of chasing it in late January.

If you requested an extension on your 2025 return, this is your deadline to file.

Remember that an extension gives you more time to file, not more time to pay. Any tax you owe was due in April.
