EDTECH IS NO LONGER JUST ABOUT CONTENT.
IT IS ABOUT EMOTION.

This may sound uncomfortable.

But I think the next phase of Indian EdTech will be won by those who understand human behaviour better than those who simply understand pedagogy.

Look at what happened to Unacademy.

A company that once commanded a ~$3.4 BILLION valuation in 2021 has now been acquired by upGrad for just over $200 million — roughly 94% below its peak valuation.

Was the content bad?

Obviously not.

Were the teachers bad?

Absolutely not.

Then what changed?

The consumer changed.

And maybe the industry was a little late in noticing it.

Physics Wallah understood something very early:

Students don't only follow a course.
They follow a person.

Alakh Pandey didn't build only an education brand.

He built an emotional connection.

When students felt the system was failing them, he didn't always remain behind a studio desk.

Whether it was speaking about the NEET controversy or appearing at student protests, the brand repeatedly entered the emotional space of its audience.

And today, scroll through Instagram.

Students don't just want:

"Here is the formula."

They also want:

"Who is this teacher?"

"What does he/she think?"

"What happens behind the classroom?"

"Can this teacher make me laugh?"

"Can this teacher understand what I'm going through?"

Shayari.

Humour.

Reels.

Opinions.

Personality.

Sometimes even complete absurdity.

And yes — some of us may find it inappropriate for education.

But here's the uncomfortable truth:

Gen Z doesn't consume education the way previous generations did.

"CONTENT SE TOPPER BAN SAKTA HAI.

CONNECTION SE COMMUNITY BANTI HAI."

And community is what creates:

Retention.

Brand loyalty.

Word of mouth.

Engagement.

Conversion.

And eventually—

Business.

This is where many founders still make a mistake.

They keep shouting:

CONTENT. CONTENT. CONTENT.

Content matters.

Of course it does.

But content is increasingly becoming a commodity.

A good teacher can create excellent lectures.

AI can summarise them.

YouTube can distribute them.

Thousands of teachers can teach the same chapter.

So what becomes scarce?

IDENTITY.

PERSONALITY.

TRUST.

EMOTION.

Look at the rise of newer players in the school segment.

Next Toppers, for example, has understood that Classes 9–10 are not just about delivering chapters.

The battle is for attention + identity + teacher connect.

And they are giving established players serious competition.

Because the student isn't asking only:

"Who teaches Chemistry better?"

They are also asking:

"Who do I WANT to learn from?"

That's a completely different question.

And here's my message to founders, co-founders and investors entering EdTech:

Don't underestimate the emotional economy of education.

Students are not spreadsheets.

Parents may buy the course.

But students decide whether they will actually stay emotionally invested in it.

"Education is rational on paper.
But consumption is emotional in real life."

Some teachers will read this and say:

"Yeh ethical nahi hai."

My answer is simple:

You don't have to like the change.
But you cannot complain the change doesn't exist.

Adapt.

Or reject it.

But understand it first.

Because Gen Z is not waiting for traditional education to approve its behaviour.

They have already changed the rules of attention.

EDTECH KA Dhandha sirf CONTENT se nahi chalega.

It will depend on:

Content + Teacher + Emotion + Engagement + Community + Distribution + Trust.

Results?

Results are the entry ticket.

But results alone don't build a decade-long consumer brand.

"A topper can prove your product works.
A community proves your brand matters."

That's the difference.

And perhaps that's the biggest lesson the current EdTech shake-up is teaching us.

The future of EdTech won't belong to the company with the most content.

It will belong to the company that understands—

WHAT THE STUDENT FEELS
WHEN HE CLOSES THE BOOK.

That is where the real battle is.

And honestly…

the battle has already started.

Mujhe sach mein laga tha ki agar cutoff inflate bhi hogi, toh maximum 550 tak hi jayegi. Itne difficult paper ke baad mera prediction 545–550 tha. Lekin result ne sabko surprise kar diya. Cutoff 556 (AIR ~32k) tak chali gayi.

Shayad kuch logon ko lage ki maine yeh sab views ke liye bola. Sach bataun, YouTube ke views se itna nahi milta ki kisi ke sapne ke saath khela jaaye. Agar private colleges ya abroad admissions ki dalali karta, toh har student se ₹1–2 lakh commission kama sakta tha. Maine woh raasta kabhi nahi chuna.

Sirf main hi nahi, lagbhag har major coaching institute ne cutoff 535–550 ke beech hi predict ki thi. Hum sab galat nikle.

Mujhe pata hai bahut bachchon ki umeed bani thi. Kuch students sirf 10 marks se apna GMC miss kar gaye. Unka dard main samajh sakta hoon. Mujhe bhi bahut bura lag raha hai.

Is post ke neeche comments hamesha pyaar se bhare rehte hain. Agar aaj gussa hai, frustration hai, toh mujhe daant lo. Agar mujhe gaali dene se tumhara dard halka hota hai, toh de do. Main bura nahi maanunga.

Bas ek baat yaad rakhna—jin logon ka sirf 10–15 marks se reh gaya hai, unke paas agle saal sabse strong comeback ka chance hai. Haar mat maanna.

2017, 2021, 2024 और अब 2026 — हर कुछ वर्षों में NEET परीक्षा को लेकर पेपर लीक या अनियमितताओं के आरोप सामने आते रहे हैं।
2024 में भी देशभर में students और parents ने निष्पक्षता पर सवाल उठाए थे।
अब 2026 में फिर परीक्षा प्रक्रिया पर गंभीर प्रश्न खड़े हो रहे हैं और लाखों छात्र मानसिक तनाव और असमंजस में हैं।

NATIONAL TESTING AGENCY, जो शिक्षा मंत्रालय के अंतर्गत कार्य करती है, देश की सबसे महत्वपूर्ण परीक्षाएँ आयोजित करती है। ऐसे में हर विवाद के बाद छात्रों के मन में एक ही सवाल उठता है —
आखिर जवाबदेही किसकी तय होगी?
